"Dokic Queen"

This is a song that I wrote on Jelena's seventeenth birthday (Wednesday 12th April 2000 - she celebrated it with a win over Rita Grande in Amelia Island). It's an adaptation of the Abba song "Dancing Queen". The lyrics were originally written by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson in 1976. The vocals of the original "Dancing Queen" were sung by Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

"Dokic Queen" has never been sung (and, I guess, probably never will be ;-)), but perhaps I could get Jelena and Iva Majoli to sing it! :-) They both have proven track records: Iva released a single called "Da Tebe Mi Nema" in Croatia in June 1999 (with Sandi Cenov), and Jelena performed Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" at Wimbledon 99 while it was raining - click here for photographic evidence!

DOKIC QUEEN

Wednesday night and the lights are low
Looking out for a court to go
Where they play the right tennis, getting in the swing
You come to look for a win
Any match could be that win
Shot is good and the ball is in
With a bit of topspin, everything is fine
You're in the mood for a match
And when you get the chance...

You are the Dokic Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dokic Queen, feel the ball from the racketine
You can serve, you can drive, having the match of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dokic Queen

Big-match player, say "bring 'em on"
Leave them beaten and then they're gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You're in the mood for a match
And when you get the chance...

You are the Dokic Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dokic Queen, feel the ball from the racketine
You can serve, you can drive, having the match of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dokic Queen
