Editor's COMMENT
Getting in some road time
The death of a young Gauteng man in a Lamborghini recently has again raises the question not only of driving experience but also driver training.
Bottom line is that a South African can pass the car driving test at 18 and immediately take control of a vehicle that can travel pretty much as fast as an aeroplane 300km/h is by no means the top used cars for sale in ct end of the automotive speed spectrum.
Isn't it perhaps time for the authorities to think carefully about this and institute not an "age limit" but an "experience limit" on what people can and cannot drive?
Age limits bad idea! apply in other miniature soap box derby cars countries, particularly for motorcycle licences. They're a bad idea because a 30-year-old, say, can get a driving licence and immediately drive a Lamborghini with the same lack of driving experience as an 18-year-old.
How about three years before the newly licensed driver can drive a cars for sale ohio car with an engine capacity of more than 1.6 litres - and that only after a second, more advanced, test?
A similar limit could apply to motorcycles nothing more powerful than, say, a 400cc machine with less than three years' riding experience?
Yes, I know some people will be put out, but not as much as a family destroyed because somebody without the necessary competence and experience is by default allowed behind the wheel of a powerful vehicle. - The Editor
The things people leave in rental cars
...EVEN A FALSE LEG AND FURRY HANDCUFFS
August 1, 2008
Car rental companies offer a wide range of vehicles designed to cater for every occasion but, judging by the unusual items customers leave behind, some cars hide strange stories.
CDs, sunglasses and umbrellas are among the most common things left s project cars behind but staff at a car-rental camaro project cars for sale company in Liverpool, England found a false leg in one car.
They also discovered a pair of ladies' white shoes under the passenger seat of a car returned eldon model cars that snap together by a regular customer. They rang his home but his wife said the shoes weren't hers.
The staff hastily explained they'd probably been left by a previous customer
Car renters seem to have a lot of cash to flash
. Luckily the customer's wife was understanding and he laughed about it the next time he came in.
Staff at various rental firms found designer clothing worth the equivalent of R15 000 in one car, shopping vouchers for nearly R9000 in another and 300 (R4400) in cash.
Some of the more unusual items include a set of furry handcuffs, 50 fluorescent light bulbs, a Scottish piper's ostrich-feather hat land a (well) cooked sausage behind the engine of a car rented in Exeter.
On a more fragrant note, car-rental company staff in Stansted found a station wagon full of plants. They wouldn't fit in the lost-property cupboard so until they were returned to the customer find used cars online the office looked and smelled like a florist.
