則陽(五)
1 On the way to the State of Chu, Confucius and his disciples arrived at Yiqiu.
有一回，孔子及其弟子們前往楚國訪問，途經蟻丘這個地方。
孔子之楚，舍於蟻丘之漿。
2 They checked in a hotel. In room, Zilu noticed that many people, male and female, stayed on the roof of house opposite to the hotel, overlooking. Zilu bewared very much. He was afraid to confront the malicious mobs as in the place between Chen and Cai. So, he reminded Confucius, “Some people are staying on the opposite roof and pointing to something. Shall we report it to the local security staff and ask them to watch out. We should beware more. Don’t be tricked again.”
當一行人在一家客店落腳後，子路注意到，對面臨街的屋頂上伏著許多人，有男有女，正向著客店這兒不停的張望。見了這般情況，子路一下子提高了警覺。他擔心，這回是不是如同上回在陳、蔡等地一樣，又遇著蓄意不良的人; 因此，他立刻向孔子請示：「有人在對街屋頂上向著我們這兒指指點點的，我們是不是應該通知當地的保安，請他們注意一下這些人。我們自己也應該提高警覺，別又著了別人的道兒。」
其鄰有夫妻臣妾登極者，子路曰：「是稯稯何為者邪？」
3 Confucius answered, “The people are not malicious. As I know, they are a local hermit’s family members. Don’t worry. They won’t do harm to us.
孔子說：「那些人並無惡意。我知道他們是當地一位隱士的家人，你放心好了！他們是不會傷害我們的。
4 The family changed their names and lived in the place near forest, mountain or the river side. They don’t like sociality. They have no remark or opinion on the worldly affairs but their ambitions are great.
這個家族的人，他們隱姓埋名，住在山林中河濱旁，不喜與人交往。他們從不參與議論，對世事也不表示意見，可是他們的志向卻是既高又遠的。
仲尼曰：「是聖人僕也。是自埋於民，自藏於畔。其聲銷，其志無窮，其口雖言，其心未嘗言。
5 Zilu, do you know? They are determined to reach the Nirvana Sutra via practice. Their hearts are like stone. They just palter on the worldly affairs, never being moved and never trying to do something great. They despise the inaugurators like us who devote themselves to saving or rejuvenating a country. They are really hermit. I guess that they are from the family of Yiliao who lives in the south Yiqiu. ”
子路，你知道嗎？他們走的是修行的道路。這種人心如頑石，對世俗的事只是隨便應付，絕對不起心動念，更不想有任何作為。他們對我們這些一心想要興邦救國，開創事業者，是不屑一顧的。他們是真正的隱士。我想他們可能是市南宜僚的家人。」
方且與世違而心不屑與之俱。是陸沉者也，是其市南宜僚邪？」
6 Zilu was still afraid of it. He told Confucius, “Now that we know they are from the family of Yiliao, live in south Yiqiu, it becomes simple. I will go to their house and take a look, so we know clearer about their intention. ”
子路聽了，還是不放心。他對孔子說：「既然知道他們是市南宜僚的家人，這倒也簡單，我且到他們家去一探究竟，便知分曉了。」
子路請往召之。
7 Shaking his head, Confucius stopped him. “Forget it. Don’t go. He knows that I know him well. Therefore, he must think that when I have an audience with the king of Chu, I will recommend him and ask the King to appoint him as an official.”
孔子搖了搖頭，說：「算了吧！別去了！他知道我曉得他的底細，一定認為，在我拜訪楚王之時，必會乘機提醒楚王，楚國有這麼一位賢者，何不聘請以為楚王治理國事。
8 Men of Yiliao are high-hearted guys who look down on the people like us. They always hold that we are flatterers around the king. They loathe talking with us, not to mentioning association. I guess that they have left Yiqiu and moved to other place temporarily to keep away from us.”
像市南宜僚這樣清高的人，他們是瞧不起我輩人士的。他們總是認為，我們是君王前狡詐諂媚之輩。像我們這類的人，他們是絕對不願與之交談，更不要說交往了。我猜測，他們為了避開我們，大概早已離開蟻丘，遷到別的地方去了。」
孔子曰：「已矣！彼知丘之著於己也，知丘之適楚也，以丘為必使楚王之召己也。
彼且以丘為佞人也。夫若然者，其於佞人也羞聞其言，而況親見其身乎！而何以為存！」
9 Zilu didn’t believe such things so he insisted to go to south Yiqiu to look for them. When he took a lot time and long way to find the house, he found the house was empty and nobody inside.
子路不信天底下竟有這等奇事，於是他還是按照原定計畫，跑到市南去找宜僚的家人。等他好不容易找到時，他發現那兒早已人去樓空，連一個鬼影子都沒有了。
子路往視之，其室虛矣。
