Who is brave in daring you kill.

 勇於敢則殺

 Who is brave in not daring you let live.

 勇於不敢則活,

 In these two, there is some advantage and some disadvantage.

 此兩者或利或害

 Even if Heaven dislikes certain people, who would know who are to be killed and why?

 天之所惡,熟知其故?

 Therefore even the Sage regards it as a difficult question.

 是以聖人猶難之。

 Heaven’s Way is good at conquest without strife, rewarding vice and virtue without words, making its appearance without call, achieving results without obvious design.

 天之道,不爭而善勝,不言而善應不召而自來,然而善謀。

 The heaven’s net is broad and wide, with big meshes, yet letting nothing slip through.

 天網恢恢,疏而不失。

1 In the temple, believers, both male and female, are seen to do divinations before Buddha and Bodhisattva, praying for fortune, good luck or the instruction of worldly affairs.

在寺廟裡,在佛菩薩面前經常會看到許多善男信女跪在那兒卜卦,乞求神佛賜予財富、好運或者請示某些俗事的處理方向。

2 Seeing such a scene each time, I feel them miserable and pitiful.

每當看到這樣的情景,我不免就會替他們感覺到可悲與可笑。

3 The poor believers are wasting their efforts. They don’t remember Buddha’s repeating edification—revulsion from worldly affairs.

這些可憐的信徒們,他們無疑是白費力氣。他們不知道,世尊曾一再的教誨其信徒,要他們厭離、斷絕這些世俗的事事物物。

4 If Buddha were on the spot and heard their praying words, he would be very angry. He would be angry at these believers’ neglecting his edification: do revulsion from world to seek Nirvana.

佛如果有知,聽到了這些人的禱詞之後,他肯定會非常生氣; 氣這些信徒沒有聽取他的教誨: 遠離紅塵,追求涅槃道。
 
5 Buddha may think that these loathsome guys neglect my edification is forgivable, but how dare they openly express their desire of worldly affairs before me.

佛當時大概會這麼想,這些可惡的傢伙,不聽我的話也還罷了,如今竟敢跑到我的面前來,公然的展現他們對這些世俗事物的貪婪之心。

6 Buddha has a good temper, laughing off it, thinking that they are ignorant as child’s babble. But if you pray again and again, making a noise without stop, Buddha and Bodhisattva may be angry at it and have to do something to let you shut up. That’s bad!

當世尊心情好時,也許會一笑置之,笑這些人的幼稚、笑他們的童言無忌。而如果你而再,再而三的囉唆,喋喋不休的嘮叨個不停的話,那麼佛菩薩也許會真的生氣了,這時,也許會乾脆找個讓你永遠閉嘴的方法,那到時你就完了。

7 He who really knows Buddhism and is confident in Buddha believes that Buddha is mighty and omniscient. Once you stand before him, he can know all of you, your situation, your place, your mind, what you should do and what you need. Hence you had better stand there, saying and thinking nothing.

真正懂得佛法的人,真正對佛菩薩有信心的人,他們相信佛菩薩是萬能的,是無所不知的。一旦你站在的面前,就完完全全的掌握了你當時的整個情況、你的處境,你心理在想些什麼、你應該做什麼、又需要些什麼。所以最好的方法就是站在那兒什麼話也別說,腦子裡什麼也別想。


8 Laotse said: “Heaven’s Way is good at conquest without strife, rewarding vice and virtue without words, making its appearance without call, achieving results without obvious design.

一切就如同老子說的 "不爭而善勝,不言而善應不召而自來,然而善謀"。

9 Therefore, before Buddha, you just salute and come close to Buddha. That’s all.

因此,在佛菩薩面前,你就只要安安靜靜地禮佛親近佛就夠了。

10 Buddha will not encourage you to seek fame, interest and fortune, nor give you a source of suffering, and let them to hurt you. However, he will generously endow you with progressing in practice and give you a tranquil and peaceful life if you want.

名利、財富這些東西,佛是不會鼓勵你去追求,也不會賜給你,讓這些苦源去傷害你的。可是安寧、平靜、勇猛精進的修行生活,卻是會很大方的賜予想要擁有它的人。

11 Some people publicly claim that they worship demon. They pray to demon for fame, interest and wealth. In a sense, they seem to find a right object. What they prey for is suffering, and they gain it. Demon grants whatever they request. 

這世上有某些人,他們公然的主張膜拜魔鬼,向魔鬼祈求名利、財富。在某種意義上,他們似乎是找對了窗口,不但求苦得苦,而且還有求必應。

12 Additionally, the managers in a company are really like the employee who works seriously, competing for but speaking of nothing.

另外,在世間的實務上,那些公司的經理們,他們也確實比較喜歡那些認真工作,並且不爭、不言的員工。

 
13 These employees work seriously and have good performance record; no doubt they will be the candidates for future promotion. In this regards, they don’t need to bribe on the eve of promotion.

這些員工,他們平常認真的工作,績效特優; 因此在提拔後進時,公司就會從中挑選、考慮擢升他們。那是絕對不需要他們臨陣磨槍,甚至另外想辦法去送什麼紅包或登門請託的。

14 Though we advocate that “Heaven’s Way is good at conquest without strife, rewarding vice and virtue without words, making its appearance without call, achieving results without obvious design.” It doesn’t mean that you can get windfall without doing anything. It is not so. Actually, you have to practice in silence and lay a firm foundation of subjective conditions. Don’t lobby, don’t compete, or manager will feel boring and give you up.

然而,所謂 不爭而善勝,不言而善應,不召而自來,然而善謀,並不是表示你什麼都可以不用做,好事自會從天上掉下來。不是這樣的,首先你必須默默的自我修煉,努力的營造主觀條件方面的那座堅實堡壘。千萬不要去關說,不要去爭論,爭多了、關說多了,就會弄巧成拙,主管心裡難免也會覺得煩,會對你心生厭倦,終而捨棄你的。
 
15 Manager in a company loathes the employees who compete for and request everything. Since the manager can’t decide your promotion and salary increase by his free will. It is no use to scramble for it. Scrambling between manager and employee will hurt the feeling of both sides. Thus manager may reluctant to give you task or promote you because he is afraid that you desire and request will become bigger and bigger, and he can meet it at the end of the day. 

在一家公司中擔任主管的,他們心裡最不喜歡的就是那些經常爭這要那的人。因為升官加薪也不是任何主管所可以私自單獨決定的,在這樣的情形之下,就算你再爭也沒用。更何況爭多了反而會傷害了雙方的感情,使得主管不敢再輕易任用你,不敢提拔你,就為了怕你將來尾大不掉,胃口越來越大,終無善了。

16 Accordingly, not to strive, and yet it skillfully overcomes; not to speak, and yet it is skilful in obtaining a reply; not to call, and yet men come to it by themselves; Its demonstrations are quiet, and yet its plans are skilful and effective, which is not something profound, but a common sense which is inevitable to become true in our daily life.

如此看來,不爭而善勝,不言而善應,不召而自來,然而善謀也並非是什麼高深莫測的天道,它們其實也只不過是世上人之常情的必然結果吧了!
