Accomplish
do-nothing.
為無為，
Attend to no-affairs.
事無事，
Taste the flavorless.
味無味。
Whether it is big or small,
many or few, requite hatred with virtue.
大小多少，報怨以德。
Deal with the difficult while
yet it is easy; deal with the big while yet it is small.
圖難於其易，為大於其細。
The difficult problems of the
world must be dealt with while they are yet easy.
天下難事，必作於易;
The great problems of the
world must be dealt with while they are yet small.
天下大事，必作於細。
The Sage by never dealing with
great problems, therefore, he accomplishes greatness.
是以聖人終不為大，故能成其大。
He who lightly makes a promise,
will find it often hard to keep his faith.
夫輕諾必寡信，
He who makes light of many
things, will encounter many difficulties.
多易必多難。
Hence even the Sage regards
things as difficult, and for that reason never meets with difficulties.
是以聖人猶難之，故終無難矣。

4 A man of practice who can reach the level of no-self, and be flexibility, he
has been in the utmost state that he is integrated with nature. He doesn’t feel
happy when you compliment and respect him; he doesn’t feel angry when you
insult and curse him.
能夠做到無相、無住的修行人，他已經是修到最高境界與大自然合而為一了。這種修行完備的人，你恭維他，尊敬他，他不會覺得高興。你侮辱他，責備他，他也不會老羞成怒。
故敬之而不喜，侮之而不怒者，唯同乎天和者為然。

1 There is two
kinds of people who are insulted but not angry: one is that he is very
shameless. He doesn’t care for the masses’ rebuke, and keeping on his luxury
life style and his way of living. He can do everything outrageously regardless
of law punishment, reproaching, and losing honor.
侮之而不怒者有兩種情形，一種是臉皮特厚，毫無廉恥心，好官我自為之，吃香的、喝辣的，被你們無關痛癢的罵幾句也無所謂了。不怕法律制裁、不計社會非議及獎譽的人，法律、毀譽就會困不住他。
2 Other is that he has such an attitude to treat the rebuke: if I am wrong, I
will correct it; if not, I will keep it on guard and as encouragement. He is a
man has reached the level of no- self so as to forget the discrimination
between self and other, then, other’s reproaching and rebuke will cause no
retorting, no fretting and no anger to him.
另一種是抱著有則改之、無則嘉勉，以對事不對人的態度去面對指責。這種人已經是做到了無相的修養，根本上忘卻了人我的區分，也因此，別人對他的各種非議及責難也就絲毫不會引起他的任何還擊、不快、以及憤怒等的種種情緒了。
3 A man, his mind doesn’t stir for
outside stimulation. With tranquility and peace, Qi
is placid, so that practice can be started.
心不會因為外界的刺激而興風作浪; 沉穩安寧做到了，氣就平和了，修行才算上了路。

1 The issue of
Taiwan Straits is a biggest current difficulty that Chinese are facing. It is
difficult for people of both sides to be crammed together within a short time
because the cognitive difference between each other which has been created for
the separation of fifty years. However, we should not ignorance the fact of
long separation between two sides. In case
海峽兩岸的問題是當下(2003)中國人所面臨最大的難題之一。兩岸人民相隔長達五十多年，再加上長期隔離所產生的認知上的差距，要想在較短時間內將兩岸硬生生的推拉在一起將是很困難的。可是我們卻也不能因此而對兩岸關係漸行漸遠的可能發展掉以輕心; 因為萬一台灣政客們錯估形勢，匆匆宣佈獨立，那麼激烈的戰火難免就會將兩岸人民燒灼得遍體麟傷了。
2 What can we do?
Laotse taught us to deal with the difficult while yet
it is easy; deal with the big while yet it is small. Recently people of both
sides made a lot of communication activities in various aspects. They make
cultural and economic exchanges including PE match, art performance and visit,
the Three Direct Links between
既然如此，那麼我們應該怎麼辦呢？老子說，圖難於其易，為大於其細。現階段我們兩岸民間團體所推動的文化交流、球隊互訪、文藝團體互訪時的各種表演乃至小三通、節慶包機、兩岸人民互串門子、工商界相互協助，共創財富，學生們相互到對方的校園中去與同輩們一同生活、一起學習等等。所有這些小事、中事都很自然地將兩岸關係緊緊的拉在一起。
3 Everything
difficult must be dealt with while it is still easy; everything great must be
dealt with while it is still petty. People on both sides, wise and intelligent,
have done so for many years. Elite of business circle of both sides work
together to shine on the stage of world economy. They together urge the
restructuring of world economy. Mainland has become the factory of the world
and the manufacturer of IT hardware second to
天下難事，必作於易，天下大事，必作於細。我們兩岸人民，兩岸聰明而富有智慧的人民，不就是這樣默默地奉之行之多年了嗎? 兩岸工商界人士的聯手出擊，已經為中國在世界經濟舞臺上打出了一片燦爛的天空，造成全世界經濟活動的重新組合。大陸成為世界的製造工廠，成為全世界IT硬體製造大國，排名僅次於美國，高居世界第二。據Business Week的報導，中國IT硬體外銷成績中有７０％直接或間接與台灣的電子業有著密切的關係。照情形判斷，兩岸人民在他們可以努力的範圍之內，不是已經擁有了許多非常可觀的成績了嗎？
4 In the future,
when someone shouts for Taiwan Independence, we don’t feel too nervous. We
should not feel panic about the small wave. Let’s consider it carefully; people
of both sides have done trivia and petty work. We should not doubt the
possibility of unification of both sides when conditions are ripe.
下次台獨的論調再次高喊時，我們就不要太緊張，以為台獨的聲浪又高漲了; 我們犯不著為了一些小風波而反應過敏，就讓我們細心地觀察，留意兩岸百姓已經達成的那些小而細的工作。在如此緊密周嚴的合作基礎之下，我們對兩岸將來時機成熟，水到渠成的未來，實在是不應該再抱有什麼懷疑的了。
5 We also notice
the issue between the easy and the difficult. The easy is the step to solve
problems but it is not the absolute way. We divide problems into many small
ones, and solve it one by one. It is not shortcut. It is like a man who wants
to make fortune. His shortcut is to rob money of bank. In this “easy” way, he
will be in big trouble.
在易與難的問題上，有一點也是我們應該密切留意的，那就是，“易” 是解決難題的步驟，但卻並非是絕對的方法。因此，在解決難題時，我們應該將難題劃分為許多塊，將問題細化，然後再分別解決。但是這絕非是教人走捷徑、抄近路; 就好比有人想發財一樣，抄近路的方法之一，就是去搶劫銀行; 而如果你當真那樣做的話，結果就問題大條了。
6 Dennis Kozlowski, the deposed CEO
of Tyco Company felt regret when he was cornered for his scandal. He exhorted
people: “Think carefully, and for your sake, do the right thing not the easy
thing.” We had better be cautious of using the easy to deal with the
difficulty.

Kozlowski，在他東窗事發被逼到牆角時，說出他最為悔恨的善言。他說 “Think carefully,
and for your sake, do the right thing not the easy thing.” 因之，在圖難於易的問題上，我們也得小心為之才好。
