22 Man of practice often mentions that a man who practises
Tao, daily diminishes his doing. He diminishes it and again diminishes it, till
he arrives at doing nothing. Having arrived at this non-action, there is
nothing that he does not do.

23 It means that the common people¡¦s conducts mostly
depend on all kinds of desires, such as the desire of promotion, being the
representative of public opinions, and making fortune etc. When men of practice
develop self-nature, Buddha-nature, Qi, calmness and
refinement that are called Tao, their avarice, wrath and obsession giving out
via idea reduce gradually and their lives become simple and plain.

24 In the life of practice, the time the men of practice enter into samadhi lasts longer, for which the time when the desire
controls us comparatively less. In consequence, all desires, such as avarice,
wrath and obsession, diminish to least degree or even disappear. Thus they
reach the level of non-action.

Xianchi¡¦s interpretation and
remark(50¡C2)
«w¦Àµûz(50¡C2)
1 In this chapter
by Chuang Tzu, there are following topics discussing
ego and non-ego:
¦b²ø¤l³o½g°Q½×§Ú»P«D§Úªº¤å³¹¤¤¡A¨ä©Ò½×¤Îªº¥DÃD¦³:
A. Flesh
body--It is composed of various organs.
¦×¨--¨ä¤¤¥]¬A¦UºØ¾¹©x¡C
B. Consciousness--It includes impression, feeling and the orders of
action when dealing with the objective conditions.
·NÃÑ--³o¬O»P«ÈÆ[±ø¥ó©P±Û®É©Ò¥Í¤§¦L¶H¡A·Pı¡A¦æ°Êªº«ü¥Oµ¥¡C
C. Another
is soul-- Owing to its existence, flesh body has life. And organs can operate
freely in the state of unconsciousness, and keeping work around the clock.
¥t¥~¤@¶µ´N¬OÆF--¥Ñ©óÍ¢ªº¦s¦b¡A¦×¨¤~¾Ö¦³¥Í©R; ¤~¯àÅý¾¹©xªº¹B§@¦bµL·NÃѪ¬ºA¤U¤´µM¹B§@¦Û¦p¡A¥Õ¤Ñ¡B±ß¤W¡B24¤p®É±q¤£¶¡Â_¡C
2 Chuang
Tzu¡¦s statement confuses consciousness with soul. Namely he classified them
into the same category. They are of inner function but of invisibility so we
can¡¦t detect them.

3 Therefore,
actually Chuang Tzu¡¦s classification of ego and
non-ego is in terms of have outer form or have no outer form.

4 In the statement of this part of non-form,
Buddhism sutra has clearer definition: six organs ¡V eye, ear, nose, tongue,
body and sense. The six organs plus manes consciousness and store consciousness
are totally eight consciousnesses; all of them are belonging to part of heart.

5 Self-nature, Buddha nature, soul and Qi are immortal and ego. Flesh body and the eight
consciousnesses are part of non-ego.

6 In Mahayana, the seeds in store
consciousness are things that are accumulated by experience, story, idea,
thinking and edification.
¤j¼¦ò±Ð¸ÌÁ¿ªü¿àCÃѤ¤ªººØ¤l¡A«üªº´N¬O§Ú̳o¤@¥Í¤¤©Ò¦³ªº¸gÅç¡B¨ÆÂÝ¡B·Qªk¡B©ÀÀY¡A¥H¤Î³q¹L±µÄ²¤ÎÂȳ³µ¥©Ò²Ö¿n¦Ó¦¨ªºªF¦è¡C
7 Store consciousness exists in flesh body, it has seed too. This seed with intermediate body would bring itself into new life and influence its thought, deed and concept. Therefore in the view of Buddhism, soul is immortal, the basic elements that flesh body is made up of such atom and electron never disappear; even all of idea, thought, concept and experience through the store consciousness never vanishes too; they just linger in transmigration.
¦×¨¸Ì¤]¦³ªü¿àCÃÑ¡A¤]¦³ºØ¤l¡C¤¤³±¨¦b§ëL¤§®É¡A¤@¨Ö±NºØ¤l±a¨ì·s¥ÍÅ骺ªü¿àCÃѤ§¤¤¡A±q¦ÓÅý³o¨ÇºØ¤lÄ~Äòªº¼vÅT·s¥Í©Rªº«ä·Q¡A¦æ¬°¡AÆ[©Àµ¥¡C©Ò¥H¯¸¦b¦ò®aªº¥ß³õ¨Ó¬ÝÆF¬O¤£·|¦º¤`ªº¡A¦Ó¦×¨ªº²Õ¦¨¥÷¤l---°ò¥»²É¤l¡A¤]¤£·|®ø¥¢; ´N¬O©ÀÀY¡B·QªkÆ[©À¡B¸gÅçµ¥¡A³z¹Lªü¿àCÃѤ]¤£·|§¹¥þ®ø¥¢¡A¤£¦ý¤£·|®ø¥¢¡A¦Ó¥BÁÙ·|¦b½ü°j¤§¤¤Ä~Äò±r«Þ¡C
8 For this reason, people actually are
eternal. Man of practice makes aspiration of Nirvana to jump out of
transmigration instead. When store consciousness totally turns into the seeds
of voice-hearer, solitary enlightened one and Bodhisattva. Since then, seeds in
store consciousness are purified completely. Only if changed completely, people
vanish completely.

9 With such analysis, we should know that
people¡¦s deed, idea and concept are vital because they have far-reaching

10 Buddhist¡¦s view on death should be
more unrestrained than Chuang Tzu¡¦s. Soul is immortal;
so is the flesh body; all of thought, idea and experience are never gone too.

2 However, the two
philosophers have different attitude on impermanence. Buddha thought that
impermanence is suffering; form is impermanence; so, suffering is non-ego and
the destiny of flesh body; to cast off suffering, people must desert flesh body
and jump out of transmigration.

3 Chuang Tzu knew the fact that world affairs are impermanent.
Instead of escaping those suffering, he bravely took measure of acceptation to
deal with it. He deemed the past is gone. It is helpless to date back. The
future is far. It can¡¦t be done for it. If a man really wants to do something
in his life, only the present is ready which he can grasp. For this reason,
people should gladly accept various changes before him in his life, and manage
it well.

Countless scholars interpreted and remarked on the two books, especially Lin Yutang¡¦s Laotse¡¦s wisdom.
All of them after preparation are ready for me now. I calm down to employ the
resource in good way to write this article. If the future reader were

wise people who have some cognition on this world that is helpful in solving
their perplexity. Thus my work of writing is significant.

5 With the attitude of grasping the present, we can live a life peacefully,
flourishingly and stably no matter where and what we are. If I went to hell, it
is nice that someone will offer me food and water; I would spend the time of
detainment in sitting and practicing devotedly. If I were a pig, I would be a
magic pig, a boar or pig of good meat. Anyway, regardless of whatever I am, I
will master every moment of life, even the moment of death. I can deal with the
environment properly, very steady and to the point.

17 The theory is simple too. If you close eyes, plug ears, and cease operation

18 So, in brief, the eye sees nothing, the ear hears nothing, and the mind
thinks nothing, your spirit will stay in your body, and the body will thereby
live forever. Namely, you maintain the peace and tranquilness
of heart well, and reduce somewhat outward entanglement or even seal off. The
littler you know the outward knowledge, the better you are. It is in vain to
know more or think more. When you accomplish practice at basic level and your
wisdom arises, your practice hit the way.

washing-out processes in which the superior is selected and inferior is
eliminated maintain species healthy, strong and prosperous.
