逍遙遊(二)



1 Drinking afternoon tea at gallery, Jianwu and Lianshu chatted freely. It occurred to Jianwu that he wanted to consult Lianshu.

肩吾與連叔在走廊上喝下午茶,兩人天南地北地瞎聊,肩吾突然想起一件事,他對連叔說:

2“I had dinner with Jieyu last night. After having drunk three cups of wine, Jieyu spoke somewhat incoherently. He told me a queer story, which was far off the substance, far like galaxy. You couldn’t imagine how it was at all. Some how, I am afraid whether he was out of mind or not.”

「昨天晚上我和接輿吃飯,三杯下肚後接輿有些語無倫次。他告訴我一件稀奇古怪的事,就像天上的銀河似的絲毫不著邊際,完全無法想像。我實在聽不懂,我怕他是不是神經有問題了。」

肩吾問於連叔曰:「吾聞言於接輿,大而無當,往而不返。吾驚怖其言,猶河漢而無極也,大有徑庭,不近人情焉。」

3 As Jieyu’s old friend of years, Lianshu had been acquainted well with him and admired his profound knowledge. So Lianshu asked Jianwu,

連叔與接輿是多年老友,對其知之甚詳,也十分佩服其淵博的知識。連叔問肩吾:

4“What did he say to you? Surprise you so much.”

「接輿都跟你說了些什麼啊?讓你驚訝成這個樣子。」

連叔曰:「其言謂何哉?」

5 Jianwu said, “He said there was a man of perfect status by practice, who lives in remote Gushe Mountain. With rosy cheek, white hair, flexible body, he, usually, doesn’t eat grain but drink west wind and dew.

肩吾回答:「他說,在遙遠的姑射山上,住著一位修行完備的人。他白髮紅顏,身體柔軟,平時不吃五穀雜糧,只靠西風飲露就能生活。

6 He rode on cloud and charioted flying dragon to roam around four seas in his spare time. He practiced everyday. He modulated climate to make favorite weather, to bless harvest of crops, and to kill off plague. In my opinion, this is impossible, he must be insane.”

空閒時他乘雲氣,御飛龍,翱遊四海。他每天修練,用其氣來調節天地,使得風調雨順,五榖豐收,瘟疫不生。我說哪裡有這種人,這種事,一定是接輿神經錯亂了。」

曰︰「藐姑射之山,有神人居焉,肌膚若冰雪,淖約若處子。不食五穀,吸風飲露。乘雲氣,御飛龍,而遊乎四海之外。其神凝,使物不疵癘而年穀熟。吾以是狂而不信也。」

7 Standing up, Lianshu patted Jianwu on the shoulder,

連叔站起來,拍拍肩吾的肩膀說:

8“Buddy! You can’t depict the beauty of calligraphy to the blind and can’t describe elegance of music to the deaf. There are also assorted the blind and the deaf in realm of experience and intelligence. With them you can’t share some experience and intelligence.

「兄弟啊!你沒辦法對瞎子談書法之美; 也沒辦法對聾子描述音樂之雅。在智慧及經驗的領域裡,也存在著許多種類不同的瞎子,聾子。對這些人你是沒有辦法與他們分享某些智慧與經驗的。

9 Man! In the limitless universe, nothing is impossible.

老弟啊!在這個無限的時空裡,任何事情都是可能的;

10 We can’t say we don’t know because we don’t see it, and deny its existence.

不能說我們不知道,沒有看過就說它不存在。

11 As far as Jieyu’s experience is concerned, you are blind and deaf. As Jieyu told, the kind of men with perfect status by practice melted their self-nature, Buddha-nature, calmness and refinement into the universe. Power of universe was employed freely in their bodies without transferring or converting.

在接輿的經驗層面上,你就是個瞎子,就是聾子。像接輿所說的修行完備之人,他們的自性、佛性、挫火、妙用已與大自然的氣充分溝通,合而為一。自然的力量不須轉化,就直接在他身上廣為運用。所以他不需要再吃什麼五穀雜糧;

12 He possessed of exquisiteness of the universe. Glory and wealth to him are not attractive at all, but just like kids’ toys. Furthermore, confusions within the world disturbed him so he feared and warded off them at once.

他坐擁天地之妙,人世間的榮華富貴對他而言就像小孩的玩具,不再有吸引力。反而是世間的紛紛擾擾頗令人心煩,所以天下的事他是避之唯恐不及的。

13 He lived in the remote mountain. Safety wasn’t a problem to him because anything couldn’t hurt him. Deluge couldn’t drown him; severe weather couldn’t trouble him.

他住在深山中,安全是完全沒有問題的,因為萬物都不能侵害他,滔天大水也淹不死他,天氣再怎麼凶惡也為難不了他。

14 Instead, as merging himself into the universe, he applied his power to modulated earth to adapt to creatures growth. Creatures actually rely on his magical power.

相反地,因為他與大自然合而為一,他以其氣調節大地,使之更能適合萬物生長,萬物實際上頗有倚賴他的神力以圖存。

15 In this sense such men as Yao, Shun, live on the supply from creatures. How could they handle worldly trivia to be prior to them?”

在某種意義上,堯、舜等人都是靠萬物的供應才能生活,在這樣的優先秩序下,他怎麼可能為了世間一些煩瑣小事而親自處理呢?

連叔曰:「然,瞽者無以與乎文章之觀,聾者無以與乎鐘鼓之聲。豈唯形骸有聾盲哉?夫知亦有之。是其言也,猶時女也。之人也,之德也,將旁礡萬物以為一世蘄乎亂,孰弊弊焉以天下為事!之人也,物莫之傷,大浸稽天而不溺,大旱金石流土山焦而熱。是其塵垢秕糠,將猶陶鑄堯舜者也,孰肯以物為事!」

16“There was a merchant from Song. He sold hats that should be worn in northern area to southern area. As weather was hot in southern area, people there dishevel their hair and draw tattoo over the bodies instead of clothes. He certainly failed his business in southern area because people don’t need hats in south.

從前有一位宋國的商人,他腦袋不清楚,將北方的禮帽拿到廣東去賣。南方氣候炎熱,百姓都是披頭散髮,以紋身代替衣服,他們怎麼會買這種滑稽的禮帽呢?生意做不成是想當然的事。

17 The merchant failed, as did Yao. His governance was so well that he boasted of his achievement of governance. He may boast before the common people but someday he went crazy. Having traveling far to Gushe Mountain and the north of Fen River, he visited the Nazarites, such as Wangni, Chique, Beiyi and Xuyou. He spouted governance of the country at them. As a contrary result, instead he was induced to seek for the simple, stable and tranquil way of life, failing in his spouting. He made up his mind to demise the Crown.

同樣的情形也在堯身上顯現。堯將天下治理得不錯,頗有些政績值得誇耀,他跟一般人吹吹牛也就算了,他哪根筋不對,老遠地跑到姑射山上以及汾水以北的地方去找王倪、齧缺、被衣、許由等修行人,找他們高談治國之道。結果牛沒有吹成,自己反而被這些修行完備的人感動,也興起追求簡單樸素、沉穩安寧祥和的生活方式,決心將王位讓出。

18 Jianwu! In future you should be discreet in remarking on what you don’t know and should not deny it arbitrarily.”

肩吾啊!對我們不明白的事情,以後還是不要妄加評論,武斷地否認才好。」

宋人資章甫而適越,越人斷髮文身,無所用之。堯治天下之民,平海內之政。往見四子藐姑射之山,汾水之陽,窅然喪其天下焉。

1
