DNA Patent Database
(DPD) (free searching and full text) http://208.201.146.119/
The DNA Patent Database (DPD)
is a joint project of the Georgetown University's Kennedy Institute of
Ethics and the Foundation for Genetic Medicine.
The DNA Patent Database
(DPD)enables users to conduct Boolean searches of the full text of the
patents and of delimited fields of all DNA patents issued by the United
States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). There is "Lookup" button which
can be used for looking up any word before doing a search, such as
keywords, names. The database can also be browsed by name and title from
the maximum number of 100 to 150,000. Click on here for the
database searching online help.
Patents included in the DPD were identified by virtue of their PTO
classification and the presence of keywords such as "DNA" within the body
of the patent. Each individual patent claim has been coded into groups
that relate to biological classification, function or application (e.g.
human origin, promoter and vaccine). Each patent entry is linked with the
affiliations of the inventors and assignees and a notation if the Unites
States government had involvement in the underlying research. The intent
of this database is to provide information on some of the most fundamental
policy questions in biotechnology.
