International Conference: 2nd International Conference on Responsive Manufacturing
Location: Gaziantep TURKEY
Dates: 26 June 2002 - 28 June 2002
Deadline: 01 January 2002
Information: AIM and SCOPE: Many manufacturing companies have been required to reduce the time to market of products with shorter life cycles, greater part variation, lower costs and higher product quality. This means that characteristics such as flexibility, responsiveness and reconfigurability are essential in order to change functional capabilities within a short period of time. The main goal of Responsive Manufacturing (RM) is to achieve rapid, flexible and integrated development, manufacture and support of complex products within an extended and increasingly global supply chain. Responsive Manufacturing is also employed to counter the increase in unpredictability of market conditions and the need to reorganise manufacturing activities, enabling manufacturing enterprises to thrive under conditions of uncertainty. The seamless integration of information to improve the speed of product realisation and concurrency of product and process development; the utilisation of intelligent manufacturing technology to improve competitiveness and speed of the product development; and the deployment of reconfigurable manufacturing systems to improve flexibility, optimise performance and improve the manufacturing systems ability to cope with disturbances are considered as critical elements in achieving manufacturing responsiveness. The 2nd International Conference on Responsive Manufacturing will provide an excellent opportunity for debating these issues. Both academia and industry are invited to present their papers dealing with state of the art research and future developments. Conference Secretariat: University of Gaziantep, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering, 27310 Gaziantep, Turkey. CALL FOR PAPERS AND PROPOSALS: The Seventh International Western Academy of Management Conference: Challenges in the 21st Century - Opportunities, Vision and Obstacles
Location: Lima, Peru
Dates: 06 July 2002 - 10 June 2001
Deadline: 09 November 2001
Information: Please join us in Lima, Peru to continue the WAM tradition of exploring provocative questions, in an international venue. WAM ventures to South America for International Western Academy of Management Conference, where the academic and business community will make the event truly memorable for the participants. A consortium of top business universities in the area, comprised of the institutional co-sponsorship of ESAN, UPC and Universidad de Pacifico, has been an active partner in planning of WAM to Lima, Peru. Combining academic proceedings and cultural presentations, a stimulating program is being developed. We are encouraging the broad participation of Latin American scholars as well as promoting innovative approaches to the conference program. The conference is a response to recent dialogue in the academic and business arenas requesting an insight into the generation of business internationally and in Latin America specifically. Over the past decade or so, the world has witnessed a series of events with important implications for managing business in the 21st century. Business opportunities, management obstacles and leadership vision are now being challenged as the world economies experience slowing growth. As similarities and differences appear to effect success in business, cultural considerations seem no longer optional. Does culture matter? When does culture matter? How much does culture matter? When does culture impact business development? Scholars and businesspeople from around the world are invited to explore these and other issues through papers and symposia. The conference will also include panels and discussion roundtables, and promotes informal exchange of ideas. Of particular interest are issues related to Latin America. Papers will be accepted written in English, or Spanish accompanied with English abstracts. For further info Email mailto:[email protected]
CALL FOR PAPERS: XV World Congress of Sociology (Organized by the International Sociological Association)
Location: Brisbane, Australia
Dates: 07 July 2002 - 13 July 2002
Deadline: 09 November 2001
Information: Research Committee 02 Economy and Society/Session 8: THE ENTREPRENEURIAL SOCIETY. Co-Chairs: Bruno Trezzini, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, mailto:[email protected] and Alexius A. Pereira, National University of Singapore, mailto:[email protected]. Entrepreneurship has gained new scholarly interest as the new economy takes root. What does it mean? Basically it suggests creativity and innovativeness in identifying and exploiting new niches in the economy. This would include finding new means to exploit existing niches. But entrepreneurship has also spawned new directions in conceptions of the individual and the organization. The concept is implicit, for instance, in terms such as self-employment, employability, lifelong learning, and self-marketing. On the level of organizations, entrepreneurship is embedded in terms such as empowerment and self-managed teams. We welcome papers which address such changes, and the advent of an entrepreneurial society. The co-chairs will gather all submissions of papers until November 1, 2001. Paper proposals should include a clear summary of theme, data collection, and theoretical directions as well as a schedule on paper completion. The result of the selection process will be announced by November 15. Please note that any acceptance of a paper will assume that the author is committed to attend the conference session. Early notice of any change in an authors intention to attend the conference would be much appreciated. Depending on the quality of submissions and the individual interest of participants, the co-chairs intend to prepare an edited volume. The four or five presented session papers could form the core, with selected papers that could not be accommodated in the session as well as some specially invited papers complementing them. For more information on the congress see http://www.sociology2002.com and http://www.ucm.es/info/isa
