River Man #1 - Small Creatures

Nothing phases the riverman. Except the four crabs that scratch the side of his boat in the morning. Sometimes they wake him up before sunrise.
Oh and the mouse. The mouse that is trapped in between the walls of his boat. Running around, scurrying, by the side of his head at night. Sometimes it keeps him awake. Especially when it’s cold.
But other than these small things, nothing phases him. No news report, no local gossip, no family feud. Not even crazy Paul who sometimes rides his motorbike over the riverman’s neatly cut grass and sprouting vegetables. “WEEEEE!” Paul shouts. Legs in the air and throttle revving, as the onion flowers fly off their stems and the potato plants become unrooted…
The riverman would just watch from his shed window, sandpapering one of his new wooden creations. Sometimes even a grin flickers across his face. A small sign that he was simply happy to be sharing the land with bigger creatures.
