Where has My Fringe Gone?

I was walking up Mercer street this morning and viewed the street rather oddly, realizing that something familiar was missing. The fringe central banner that flew in front of the storespace they had rented for a month was gone....

Now, While I was well aware that they would be moving out over the weekend, I still could not get over the odd feeling I had. The closest that I could come to describing it would be sort of like when you walk by the address were an old and good friend used to live before moving to a land far away and unkown....

Now of course I know the FRINGE FESTIVAL will return next year, and I actually hope to have the time to even do some volunteer work. Yet I know that I will miss seeing their freindly banner beckining to me as I walk the sidewalks of Mercer street in SOHO, and I know I will miss my time spent there just sitting about and chatting with the people, who really are the magic that makes fringe work, Folks like the volunteers who always seemed to just fall out of the sky just when they were most needed. Other's like their wonderful webmaster Taty, who managed to remain sane despite the vast conspiracy that loomed everywhere and was threatening to confiscate all instances of  rational thought. Just the first few days of the fest were a challange as their internet connection went down, on a saturday when no one was available to fix it, AND WHEN MANY DEDICATED FRINGers showed up with spreadsheets of tickets they wanted to purchase....

Frightening situation it was,...

So they are gone....

Well, not gone exactly, just not down the block any longer....

         ....To FRING NYC of 2006, I wish to bid you far well, I wish you a long existence, and I hope to see you all next year!
