She
relishes calling a spade a spade and Salman Khan a bad actor.
Kareena Kapoor is clearly not here to win popularity polls. She's
here to make her presence felt, a typical second-born syndrome. So
she says exactly what she wants to, without discretion. Nothing
wrong with outspokenness as long as it is backed by reason, but
Kareena's outbursts sound like sulks. You didn't pay enough
attention to me? You are bad. I don't like you. There were bound
to be casualties, Salman Khan, the middle aged brat, predictably
being the first one. The khadoos Khan has taken kid
Kareena's statement ("Salman is a bad actor") to heart.
Apparently there's more than what meets the eye here. There
seems to be an interesting history behind Kareena's statement.
There was a film that Kareena had signed opposite Salman called Yeh
Hai Jalwa, which has now for reasons unknown been shelved. But
they shot together for a few days. And that's where it all began.
Salman takes great pleasure in disconcerting his new female
co-stars, especially if they don't seem to be succumbing to his
stud-dom. Mamta Kulkarni paid his nastiness back to him in double
fold during Karan Arjun. She let him have it publicly. In
all her following interviews she accused Salman of making life
miserable for her because she did not respond to his advances.
"What can I do he's just not my type", she smirked.
But Twinkle Khanna bore Salman's boorishness in silence
while shooting for Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai. He'd given her
hell too.
However, Kareena was not about to take crap from any
may-be-he's-a-big-star. Sallu's attempts to thwart the spunky
youngster were thrown back on his face. Fortunately, before the
tension could come to head, Ketan Desai decided to shelve the
film. Instead of making one film with Salman and Sanjay Dutt (he
was in the film too) and trying to match their dates for years,
Ketan decided to launch two separate films with one each. While
the Sanjay Dutt project is yet to take off, the Salman starrer is
on the floors and the interesting thing is that Kareena is no
longer in the film. Amisha Patel is.
Kareena's dates were available with Ketan yet he replaced
her with a less exciting Amisha Patel, obviously Sallu has been
singing.
And then again may be Kareena declined the film because it
is David Dhawan who's wielding the directorial wheel. But the way
Karena has been picking Salman and David Dhawan out for special
mentions in her interviews, it seems like spite. Ms Kapoor is
probably stung by her unceremonious ouster from Ketan's film. Had
she been given the chance to refuse, she wouldn't have been so
sour.
By default or design, Salman is not signing any films with
her. Bravado apart, Kareena cannot laugh away a big star like him
without it making some difference to her career. Hindi film
industry has very little in its box to offer to its actresses,
hence, significant films if not significant roles has been the
going criteria for heroines. And whatever Kareena Kapoor might
choose to project, she's intelligent enough to realise that the
loss will be more hers. That's why she's smarting.
Final
starcast of Yeh Hai Jalwa includes Salman Khan, Amisha Patel,
Rishi Kapoor, Rati Agnihotri, Rinke Khanna, Sharad Kapoor and
Sajay Dutt in a special appearance (phew!).
We all know what happened to KNPH when Amisha replaced Kareena -
is history going to repeat itself? We shall see!!
