Coupling?

Ah, yes. The ever so baffling question of coupledom. :D Unlike some other anime, Slayers coupling could be the most confusing of all. There seems to have no clear set of "who's with who". That is to say, so far in the story, no one in the whole slayer cast has said the words "I love you" yet. (sorry, but that is a fact.) It seems that almost all Slayers fans out there have a different idea of who is best with who. Everybody who's anybody in Slayers have been paired with someone. And Xelloss, being the mysterious and kawaii trickster he is, needless to say, have not escaped from such fate.

Fans have paired him with Lina, Fillia, or even Zelgadiss. (if you ask me, he should be paired with moi.^^) *cough* Anyways. Yet still, there's some people that says he can not love at all. I agree with that to some extent. Since Xelloss is a mazoku, a being of evil, he thrive on negative emotions, and can't stand when there's too much positive feelings, as we have seen in TRY. So having said that, it can be assumed that mazoku can not love at all. Not they won't or forbidden to, but simply don't love. Then again, just because he is mazoku, and their emotions is different from that of human's, does not mean we should deny everything we don't understand. I really don't care what kind of coupling you support, it's all fine with me. I support 'em all, canon and fanon. But this is an info page, so I'll try to keep my personal opinion to a minimum.

Xelloss and Lina Inverse: Xelloss has kissed Lina twice, once what the Japanese call an "indirect kiss", and once on the cheek, but this does not mean he has a crush on her. Xelloss enjoys fooling around with people (hence the name the Trickster Priest) and the most logical answer as to why Xelloss kissed Lina was either to mess around with her mind or to avoid answering a question. The reason Xelloss follows Lina around is because he was ordered to, and later joins the group in Slayers TRY because they share the same objective. Likewise, Lina does not love Xelloss; she tolerates him only because she sees him as an asset.

Xelloss and Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune: Amelia, plain and simple, would never love a being who is evil natured. Amelia believes the world should be filled with love and justice while Xelloss is a being who thrives off of negative emotions. Opposites do attract, but the force between opposite poles weakens when the distance between them becomes greater. In other words, Xelloss and Amelia are on completely different ends of the stick.

Xelloss and Martina Zoana Mel Navratilova: Xelloss did not mind Martina following him around but that does not mean that he loved her. This relationship would never work out because of Martina and her general dislike of mazoku. When she discovers Xelloss is a mazoku, she took it rather hard, to the point that she swears to never love again. But as we all know, she couldn't last long without a crush on someone, so she found Zangulus, and is currently married to him.

Xelloss and Sylphiel Nels Landa: This is the exact same as the Xelloss/Amelia situation. Other than that, Sylphiel has a large infatuation with Gourry in any case.

Xelloss and Zelgadiss Graywares: Hum...I generaly don't have a problem with male/male couplings, as I believe everyone have their right to be with whom ever they love, but would Xelloss and Zelgadiss couplings actually work out? Let take a look at the 'realationship' they share(if they even have one... e_e). Zelgadiss, 1/3 rock golem, 1/3 demon, and 1/3 human. He's quite self-conscious about his appearance, almost ashamed of it. In fact, he's a very quiet character all around, only speaking when necessary, and only interested in the shortest path to his cure. Xelloss, being mazoku, feeds on negative emotions. Many fans approves of Xel/Zel couplings say that because Xelloss tease and purposely picking on Zel. But in turth, Xelloss does that because he know that Zel would get irratated. And on the acount that Zel dislikes Xelloss, almost hates him, Zel would get really mad. Xelloss then would feed on Zel's anger and hatred. I don't think Zelgadiss have any "feelings" for Xelloss, and Xelloss is just using Zelgadiss to feed of his strong dislike of him.

Xelloss and Filia Ul Copt: This is the most common coupling I see. While it's possible that the two can have some sort of interest between each other, it's doubtful that they would ever enter a relationship with each other. This is evident because of their strong dislike for each other. In the episode where the characters were paired off with each other, Filia and Xelloss were paired together. Some people believe that this is evidence that the two are meant for each other, but I feel the need to point out that Jiras claimed that the pairs were made up to be the worst matches. This means that this is poor evidence to support this relationship. During most of Slayers TRY, Xelloss and Filia were fighting. Not once would they pair up with each other except in the end; even then was Filia very reluctant to combine her powers with Xelloss. Xelloss did save Filia once when she was falling, but he promptly dropped her onto her rear. With Filia's strong hatred towards Xelloss, and Xelloss lacking the ability to 'love', this relationship just doesn't seem to work out. Putting ryuzoku and mazoku together is like mixing water and oil. Yes, he and Filia bicker and such and many might even call it a Love-hate relationship. But, the bottom line is, he's not like the others in that way. I don't have anything against this coupledom, but I've nothing for it either. I don't hate Filia personally, she's my desktop wallpaper for a month straight, just ask my friends. And I even joined the Filia fanlisting.

Xelloss and [insert you name here]: Heehee, I see this a lot too. :D I guess we (fangirls to be more specific) just wants to keep him to ourselves. Well like I said, if you can somehow manage to snatch him away from me, you have my blessings. There's nothing wrong with this kind of coupling, after all, is wanting Xelly-kun for ourselves such a crime? ^o^
