Lorna Doone

Amelia Appearance - 5 stars

The year is 1675, and England is threatened by religious and political rivalries, which reach even into the lawless land of Exmoor, under the reign of the notorious outlaw family the Doones. When young John Ridd's family is threatened, he assumes a position against the lawbreakers, only to find that he is slowly being dragged into a world of intrigue and romance when he falls for the bewitching Lorna. Amelia Warner's first title role brings her in as the beautiful and yet mysterious Lorna Doone. Present throughout the film, we watch her change from a terrified and shy young woman to a mature and more vulnerable one as she battles between expectations and her heart. Amelia is excellent in the part, and this will be the most beloved film of her career for her fans.

(Parental Advisory: The film - left unrated as a miniseries - is exceptionally clean, but does contain some scenes of violent and brutal warfare and a half dozen profanities.)

Aristocrats

Amelia Appearance - 2 stars

A time of scandal and triumph rocks the sisters of aristocracy, as each follow their own paths. Some to destruction, others to happiness. Amelia Warner has only a bit part, and appears in perhaps thirty minutes total of the six-hour miniseries by the BBC. She is very quiet, with only half a dozen lines, but pulls them off magnificently. As her character is swiftly done away with, only entering after two hours of film, don't watch this one simply to catch a glimpse of her.

(Parental Advisory: The film contains heavily implied sensuality, sexual scenes and dialogue, and the presence of extramarital affairs. Happily, Amelia's quiet young Celia has no part in them, but they are still graphic and noteworthy.)

Mansfield Park

Amelia Appearance - 1 star

The story of a young girl, Fanny, who is sent away to live with her relatives at Mansfield Park, and the romance, heartache, and triumph she endures there. An excellent study of character, but a poor Austen adaptation it that it strays far from the book, Amelia Warner is only seen for a few seconds of film, as the teenage Fanny. We don't even glimpse her face - but merely see her writing, and hear her reading something that she has written. Disappointing.

(Parental Advisory: Rated PG13 for brief nudity, sensuality, violent images, and drug content.)

Don Quixote

Amelia Appearance Rating: 3 stars

Based on the classic novel, this witty and often hilarious adaptation brings to life the world and adventure of an old man who takes up lance and sword to become the last known knight in existence. Despite opposition from his lovely niece (Amelia Warner), the well-meaning houseman and the neighboring parson, he takes one of his servants as squire and sets out to conquer the world. Unfortunately, this modern world in which he sets forth is unwelcoming to a medieval knight, and Don Quixote's adventures may lead to more disaster than triumph.

Playing the kindhearted and noble Antonia, Amelia Warner is present throughout about a square half of the film. Her sequences are passionate and full of life, and she expresses a quiet beauty while also expressing displeasure, annoyance, and, at last, admiration for her ill uncle. An excellent film for the entire family.

(Parental Warning: Don Quixote contains some mild violence and thematic elements, as well as ghoulish "imaginary visions" that may frighten younger children. Fortunately, there's a veiled romance between Antonia and a young actor, as well as witty dialogue and comical situations, to entertain the elder age groups.)
