Introduction into the Solar System

Name:  Amber Starrett

SCOS Objectives
5.04 Describe space explorations and the understandings gained from them including:

Materials/Resources/Technology:  a computer with Microsoft Word and Internet for each student

Procedures:  To start off this lesson, I will do a KWL chart with the students.  We will talk about what the students know, what they wonder about,  and what they would like to learn.  This should get us started into our unit about the Solar System and this would get their attention as to what we are going to be talking about.  We will then start talking about how we know so much about the Solar System.  We will discuss some of the missions to places in the Solar System and how they impacted life for us on Earth.
Next, the students will be split into teams.  We will then go to this website and participate in some of the activities on it.  The students will be assigned to do a timeline about the space explorations that are given to them on this site.  After the time lines are produced, we will present them all to the class.

Differentation:  For this lesson, the students will be using the computer to appeal to the visual learners.  They will also be using intrapersonal learning since they will be working together with other students from the class.

Assessment:  The groups will all present their findings to the class.  The assessment will come when they students are presenting, since each student will have his/her own speaking part in the presentation.
