Holy Thorn by St. Patrick's Chapel, mid 20th century A Later Picture of the same scene. Note that the hedge has been removed St. Patrick's Chapel is next to the site of the now demolished almshouses. In 1960 there was a path behind the hedge which led to a "secret" passage into the High Street, opposite the Tribunal, where Abbey legal matters were decided. This passage used to be our free entrance route! Above the gate to the passage are two huge whalebones.
