In the Name of the Emperor, You're Punished!

Sailor Moon and Co. in Warhammer 40,000

By Peter Barnard

Having had some Sailor Moon figures for quite a while now, I wanted to use them for more than strange civillians and stand-in Demonettes. Since I've been bitten by the New WH40K bug (a vaccination program is in effect), I thought I'd run up some stats for them

The Story

Sailor Moon is a Japanese Magical Girl show. Usagi Tsukino is a normal schoolgirl, not particualrly bright or pretty who is actually the reincarnated spirit of the Moon Princess who ruled the Silver Millenium one thousand years ago, a reign that spanned our solar system. In the series she fights the minions of the newly awakened Queen Beryl and her Dark Generals, who have been turned to evil by dark forces.

40,000 Years Hence

40,000 years after the Crystal Tokyo reign of neo-Queen Serenity (grown-up Usagi), evil forces are once more threatening our solar system. Prehaps one klutzy teenager and her friends can turn the tide in humanity's favour.

Using Sailor Moon and Co.

Sailor Moon's little group consists of four friends (The Inner Senshi) and five allies (The Outer Senshi and her boyfriend Tuxedo Mask). The Outer Senshi and Tuxedo Mask are represented by special one-off attacks. The Inner Senshi are bought as an Elites unit for any Space Marine or Imperial Guard army. They are bought individualy, so you don't have to use them all, but you must purchase them in this order: Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus.

Note: I am not a gaming accountant, so have yet to come up with appropriate points costs.

The Inner Senshi

Note: The Inner Senshi are unarmed and only get their basic attacks at their normal strength. Unless noted below all weapopns can be fired as if stationary. But you must call out the name of the attack.

Sailor Moon/Usagi Tsukino

Klutzy teenager with a pure heart, and a lot of courage when it counts.

The Outer Senshi

In the series, the Outer Senshi and Tuxedo Mask only step in when things look bleak for the Inner Senshi. In WH40K they are represented by special, one-off attacks, that can be used once certain conditions have been met

Sailor Uranus/Haruka Tenoh
Pragmatic tomboy, and lover of Sailor Neptune.
Attack: World Shaking. Counts as a plasma cannon
Restrictions: Sailor Uranus' attack can be used ONCE per game, and may only be used if ONE casualty or more has been caused to the Inner Senshi.

Sailor Neptune/Miciru Kaioh
Elegant artist and lover of Sailor Uranus
Attack: Deep Submerge. Counts as a plasma cannon
Restrictions: Sailor Neptune's attack can be used ONCE per game, and may only be used if TWO casualties or more have been caused to the Inner Senshi.

Tuxedo Mask/Mamoru Chiba
Sailor Moon's boyfriend and also the reincarnated spirit of the Prince of Earth.
Attack: Rose Throw. Counts as a sniper rifle, but the enemy unit must test for pinning even if no casualties were caused.
Restrictions: Tuxedo Mask's attack can be used ONCE per game, and may only be used if THREE casualties or more have been caused to the Inner Senshi.

Sailor Pluto/Setsuna Meioh
Tight lipped Guardian of Time
Attack: Dead Scream. Counts as a plasma cannon
Restrictions: Sailor Pluto's attack can be used ONCE per game, and may only be used if FOUR casualties have been caused to the Inner Senshi.

Sailor Saturn/Hotaru Tomoe
Lonely, isolated healer with a dark past
Attack: Death Reborn Revolution. The Inner Senshi get a Preliminary Bombardment even if the scenario does not allow it.
Restrictions: Sailor Saturn may only be used if the Senshi are fighting on their own (see also below)

More Heroics

If you want to emulate the series and have the Inner Senshi represent your whole force, certain rules come into play:

Miniatures

Carl Desforges' Pandamonium range (which used to be available from GZG) contained some 'sailor suited super heroines' that are perfect for the job, or you could use the offical figures that are starting to creep into the country thanks to the awful American dub shown on Fox Kids and ITV sometimes.
