Warpfist's Warband |
When Games Workshop last rewrote the Necrons rules I decided to dig out all the Space Crusade androids I had stored away. It was then that I realised that with a metallic blue paint job they were dead ringers for Boomers. So if the 40K universe has Boomers, then why not the Knight Sabers?
The Knight Sabers count as an Elites choice and may only be used in a game where both players allow the use of special characters. The Knight Sabers may be included in any Imperial force, or any force that is fighting Necrons (although they are not counted as part of the army). The Knight Sabers are four independent characters, Sylia Stingray, Priss Asagiri, Linna Yamzaki and Nene Romanov.
Sylia Stingray
Sylia is a clearheaded and responsible woman. Her father created the Boomers and her brain contains Boomer technology that makes her smarter. She is the leader of the Knight Sabers and her cover as a business woman provides their funding.

Priss Asagiri
Priss is a singer in a band called The Replicants (Blade Runner reference!). Priss is reckless and a "loose cannon".

Nene Romanov
Nene usually works for the AD Police in the computer section. Her position and hacking skills provide the Knight Sabers with intelligence. In a fight she sits back running ECM and monitoring broadcasts by the police and their enemies.

Wargear: Master Crafted Lasgun (counts as a one-handed weapon), Close Combat Weapon, Scanner, ECM (see new rules), Targeting Suite (see new rules), Power Armour (3+ save)
Special Rules: Invulnerable Save
ECM: While Nene is alive, units wishing to Deep Strike or Infiltrate must roll a 6 on a 1d6. This is before any rolls required to Deep Strike as normal. Demons may be summoned as normal.
Targeting Suite: In Night Fight missions, models spotted by Nene may be fired upon by other Knight Sabers (assuming range and line of sight). Nene's spotting range is double the usual range.
Necron models (except Immortals or a Necron Lord) may not use the "I’ll Be Back" rule and remain dead when killed.
All of the Knight Sabers are Independent Characters. In missions that allow it, the Knight Sabers may Infiltrate or Deep Strike
The old Anime Projects miniatures have been re-released by MVM, you can get them through Ground Zero Games. You could also try building your own from scratch or using bits from Games Workshop's plastic Eldar and Dark Eldar. Space Crusade androids make excellent Boomer stand-ins, as I mentioned above.
BGC is available as an eight part series (now available on three compilation tapes from MVM). A three part spin-off Bubblegum Crash is still available from Manga Entertainment, and a complete re-write called Bubblegum Crisis 2040 is now available from AD Vision (it's excellent, buy it today!). US comic artist Adam Warren has also produced a graphic novel, giving his own take on the girls, called Grand Mal.
