Along with thousands of others, my first computer was a Spectrum 48K. It still resides in the loft.
Later I progressed to a 128K Spectrum +2 with an inbuilt tapedrive such luxury! Then to an Amiga 1200 and finally a PC.
The really good thing about a PC is that you can still play the old games using an emulator. It was the 48K that I used to write my adventure games.
Using The Quill utility I wrote three. "Black Tower", "A Serpentine Tale" and "Twelve Days".
(This is the original title of the latter although it is generally known as The Twelve Days of Christmas" and is based on the song of the same title.)
They were all published by John Wilson aka Balrog through his company Zenobi Software
and, in 1994, I was delighted when Twelve days won 1st Place for the best adventure at the
Adventurers' Convention. This was my finest hour!
You will find links to various sites of interest to anybody who remembers,
with nostalgia, the good old days of text adventures.
Not that they are completely gone.
Read Adventure Probe
to see that there is still a strong following and, at the time of writing,
Zenobi
is still selling both games and emulators on CD and single games can be
downloaded for free.
