This recognition activity was sponsored by the University and the UST Faculty Union. Distinction awards were formerly granted to non-academic employees only, this was the first time that honor awards were given to faculty members. Service awards were also given to Science professors, Mr. Richard See (Dept. of Math and Physics) and Dr. Lito Maranan (Psychology Dept.) for their 20^th and 25^th year of service, respectively.

Each college submitted their respective nominees for each category. Science gave nominations under the categories of instructor, professor, best researcher, and faculty members for the extension of service. Each nominee was asked to submit a Curriculum Vitae, certificate of employment, the latest faculty evaluation and the recommendation from the dean. These requirements served as the basis for the judges’ evaluation. As expected, Dr. Aguinaldo was chosen as the best researcher.

She attributed her success to "work, dedication and love of work." Her advice to the students was, " When you’re about to graduate, you must ask the same question: Where do I want to go? Where will I be happy? Maybe your parents are telling you something but you know in your heart that this will not make you happy so follow your heart." She further added, "Success comes to all who give their heart and mind to their work."
