Mathsoc Strikes for 2… and still Reaching for More

Donald Estero

ONCE AGAIN, the UST Mathematical Society (MathSoc) has proven that academic excellence is still their first priority by relaunching the PinakaMATHinik Quiz Bee at AVR 311, Dec 11.

President Paulo Mallari also cited that the contest was organized exclusively for BS Math majors aimed to challenge the Mathematical ability of the students and to develop unity among the participants. PinakaMATHinik was divided into two categories: the Junior Division (for the 1st and 2nd year students) and the Senior Division (for the 3rd and 4th year students). The participants were selected from the crop via a qualifying exam for the elimination round and those who made it competed in the final round.

The following students were the PinakaMATHinik winners from first to third places, respectively:

Junior Division

Cheryl Festin and Gil George Miranda

Paulo Canlas and Jaime Guillermo

Gerard Paras and Amelia Canon

Senior Division

Rowella Raymundo and Francis Bello

Jay Clyde Corpus and Anna Hazel Castillo

Mary Jane Velasco and Elymar Pascual

On the other hand, the 1st Intersociety Basic Math Quiz Bee was also launched by MathSoc last Dec. 13 at AVR 311. This contest was intended for all organizations of the College of Science excluding the host society.

Dr. Leticia del Rosario, Department Chair of Math and Physics was present to give an inspiring opening remark, as well as praises to the organizers of the said activity. Professor Richard See judged the said event.

The winners of the 1st Intersociety Basic Math Quiz Bee hailed from non-major organizations. They are the following from first to third places.

EWEAM (Anna Marie Villena and Sheila Gusi)

Scarlet (Rhodora Arcilla and Harold Elizaga)

CSGC (Romeo Bayog and Dennis John Galindez)

Certificates were given to the participants and medals were awarded to the winners by Mallari and Ms. Ma. Casita Radan, Junior Adviser of the MathSoc.
