Artist: The Pigeon Detectives
The come bounding out of the starting blocks, anyway. Admittedly, ‘I'm Not Sorry' is quite similar in sound to the many other British bands currently gracing the cover of style bibles across the land. But there's a great youthful exuberance that means the band manage to come out on top, and with a stellar chorus to boot it's a great little tune. The B-Side ‘I'm Always Right' appeared on the Dance To The Radio compilation What We All Want and I still like it as much now as I did then. As mentioned before, there's a Buzzcocks-like feel to the song, managing to appeal to old and new school sensibilities. Whether or not The Pigeon Detectives can hold this energy over an entire album remains to be seen. But there's every chance that they can be one hell of a singles band, and in these days of instant gratification, that's no bad thing.
