Artist: ¡Forward, Russia!
Title: Twelve

By Conor Duffy

twelve coverThe latest single from the frankly fantastic ¡Forward, Russia! is released on January 16th , and if you have any sense you'll track it down without delay. “Twelve” continues their pattern of spiky guitars, frantic vocals, and has a great drumbeat holding it all together, one that can't fail to get the blood pumping. The chorus reminded me of Bloc Party's “Positive Tension,” and ¡Forward, Russia! have an equally different and dramatic style. The song rocks hard for 2:16 before coming to an abrupt and disorientating stop.

It's backed by the equally frenzied “Four.” This time it's the bass that manages to underpin the frenzied energy of the track. Really, bands like ¡Forward, Russia! can't help but make you feel good about life, strangely enough by beating you senseless with their destructive yet compelling sound. It makes you want to jump around like a loon until exhaustion forces you off your feet.

Despite what you might think, I personally don't see naming all your songs in the order they were recorded as arty or pretentious. This single and this band simply seem to be about loud, wild rock and roll, and really, isn't that all we want?
