Forest Giants are a curious bunch. First they lull us into a false sense of security with the opening track of this download-only single. Straightforward, poppy, loud and simple, ‘Planes Fly Overhead' is a fun song indeed. I'm not entirely enamoured with their lead singer's voice, but they put together a good song, and there's a noise vein of discordant noise underneath the pop façade.
Then they spring ‘Pick Up The Pieces' on us. More out there than the previous track, it can only knock you for a loop after bobbing your head to the first song. Certainly, you get the feeling that closer ‘Gone Away' is like the band calling the listener back for a hug after scaring us.
So, a curious mix of songs found on this single. But at least it means the band will keep you guessing, and if you like the idea of that, you can download the songs right now.
