1. That the evolution of Alvin's taste for music
is an audal
representation of his personal growth. "When I was in high
school,
folk rock ang pinakikinggan ko. Siyempre since it's what my friends
were listening to, nakikisama na lang ako. Tapos around '85, kasali
na ako sa RP team. Kasama ko na sina Jerry (Codinera), Paul
(Alvarez), Benjie (Paras) at Harmon (Codinera) sa mga lakad. We used
to frequent the `in' discos noon so it followed na I got to like the
remixed and extended mixed versions of the dance music. Ngayon, I
listen to jazz music. Masarap kasing pakinggan pagnag-da-drive,
hindi magulo." Sign of old age too, if I might add (hehe).
2. That he knows who his first solid supporters
(other than his
family) are, "yang si Eleanor Lingo tsaka si Bing Guillermo, noon
pang 1986, laging nandyan na iyan. Sa Crispa quarters kasi kaming RP
Team nagstay noon. Pumupunta pa yan doon."
3. That Papa Alvin would not set his foot down
if ever his son,
Angelo James, decides to have a career in basketball just like
him. "Pero kailangan magtapos muna siya ng studies niya."
Was the
only condition he set. Mama Cindy has other dreams for AJ
though. "gusto niya maging doctor si Angelo, iniisip ko lang,
baka ma-
bore siya. Matagal kasi iyon."
4. That Alvin's ideal house is a very simple
one. "ayoko ng
malaki, yung hindi na kayo magkakakitaan sa loob ng bahay. Ayoko din
ng two-storey house. Gusto ko, single floor lang. Basta may swimming
pool, malaki ang living roon saka hi-tech ang furnishings. Angelo
will have his own room na pupunuin namin ng toys – Ninja turtles,
matchboxes with matching play city and garage tsaka yung Tonka. Tapos
in one corner may sandbox siya tsaka slide.
5. That he still blushes when he recounts the
most embarrassing
situation he ever was in, "First year ko pa lang sa PABL noon,
mga 19
years siguro. YCO versus Magnolia ang laban. E di start ng 2nd half,
jumpball. Napunta sa akin ang bola … takbo ako… sabay dunk –
dalawang
kamay … pasok! …sa sobrang excitement ko, napataas ang kamay ko
(with
matching clenched fist) habang tumatakbo sa kabilang side. Ang galing
talaga! Yun pala, yung ring, sa Magnolia, hindi na pala sa amin dahil
nagchange court. "Kakahiya!"
6. That his idea of a truly relaxing weekend is
communing with
nature. "Noon madalas akong mag-out-of-town, nature tripping,
ganon.
Ngayon hindi na pwede. Pero pag off-season, nagsi-swimming kami
(family) without fail."
7. That he is thinking of taking up scuba diving
as a
hobby. "Nagpictorial kasi kami noon sa Swatch (diver's watch),
pinasuot nila ako ng complete gear – wet suit, fins, tsaka yung
oxygen tank. Ang sarap pala ng ganon (Breathing pure oxygen), parang
nililinis ang buong body mo. Sayang, yung pictorial sa swimming pool
lang."
