Special Agreement Problems:Watch for compound subjects and prepositional phrases when making subjects and verbs agree. COMPOUND SUBJECTS When two or more parts of a compound subject are joined by the conjunction and, use the plural form of the verb.
When the parts are joined by or, either/or, or neither/nor, use the form of the verb that agrees with the subject closest to the verb.
PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES AFTER THE SUBJECT Be careful with prepositional phrases that come between the subject and the verb. Do not confuse the subject of the verb with the object of the preposition. Look at this example:
