Writing  Students will be participating in a mock writing assignment this nine weeks. Although it is practice for the real writing assessment taken in the 8th grade, students will be given a grade for this assignment. The writing process will be reviewed with an emphasis on "style" in composition.

Spelling and Vocabulary  Students will be given a list of words to study in preparation for the Spelling Bee. Our class bee will be held January 18 and each class winner will compete in the Adamson Spelling Bee on Friday, January 25.

SUPPLIES  Students will need a spiral notebook for a journal to leave at Forum class. Paper and pen or pencil are needed for class on a daily basis.

SCIENCE SYLLABUS FOR 3rd QUARTER

These are our science objectives for this quarter. Students will be able to:

  1. Name and compare the four basic types of rocks and give their origins.
  2. Show an understanding of electricity. Identify, make, and compare series and parallel circuits.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of magnetism and the universal law of magnetism.
  4. Show an understanding of weather systems and weather vocabulary. They will be able to relate this information to current weather patterns and local conditions.
  5. Describe and compare the theories of continental drift and plate tectonics.
  6. The students will be able tell about the Ring of Fire and the relationship between tectonic plates and seismic activity near the Earth’s plates.
  7. Describe and show and understanding of the geologic time chart and the four eras of time—Precambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic.
  8. Demonstrate an understanding of the environment of the Earth and participate in ways to help protect and "save" the Earth in simulated activities.
  9. Define and give examples of adaptation and survival of animals.

10.Compare asexual and sexual reproduction in plants and animals.

  1. Maintain a science notebook. The notebook should be in order and have all required items. This notebook will be used for lab activities and study. It should be taken to class each day.
  2. Complete all lab activities and lab sheets.
