Language Arts Syllabus for 2nd Quarter
The students will:
- Participate in a statewide project (Media Festival, Science Fair or Social
Science Fair) individually or with a partner.
- Read and study the novel Old Yeller.
- Research topics related to the novel.
- Practice the Writing Process including developing a topic
and forming varied paragraphs.
- Apply grammar rules regarding verbs and pronouns.
Science Syllabus
for 2nd Quarter
The students will be able to:
- name and give examples of the
properties of matter.
- name and give examples of the
states of matter.
- define and give examples of physical
and chemical properties.
- define and give examples of physical
and chemical changes.
- identify atomic number, atomic mass
number, symbols, and groups of elements on the periodic table.
- identify simple chemical formulas
and compounds and identify and give examples of bases and acids on a Ph
scale.
- identify the three basic kinds of
rocks, and name the properties of rocks in the rock cycle.
- compare and contrast different light
sources.
- define and give examples of opaque,
transparent, and translucent materials related to light.
- identify the energy waves and give
examples of each wave on the electromagnetic spectrum.
- understand and give examples of our
wonderful world of color.
- complete a closed circuit, and
identify paths of electricity in forming closed circuits.
- discover the relationship between
electricity and magnetism in lab activities.
- complete lab activities and lab
worksheets in a responsible and timely manner.
- maintain an organized science
notebook to be graded at anytime during the nine weeks.
- participate in the Mars City Alpha
simulation in creation of a module for a station on Mars.
