Language Arts Syllabus for 2nd Quarter

The students will:

  1. Participate in a statewide project (Media Festival, Science Fair or Social Science Fair) individually or with a partner.
  2. Read and study the novel Old Yeller.
  3. Research topics related to the novel.
  4. Practice the Writing Process including developing a topic and forming varied paragraphs.
  5. Apply grammar rules regarding verbs and pronouns.

Science Syllabus for 2nd Quarter

The students will be able to:

  1. name and give examples of the properties of matter.
  2. name and give examples of the states of matter.
  3. define and give examples of physical and chemical properties.
  4. define and give examples of physical and chemical changes.
  5. identify atomic number, atomic mass number, symbols, and groups of elements on the periodic table.
  6. identify simple chemical formulas and compounds and identify and give examples of bases and acids on a Ph scale.
  7. identify the three basic kinds of rocks, and name the properties of rocks in the rock cycle.
  8. compare and contrast different light sources.
  9. define and give examples of opaque, transparent, and translucent materials related to light.
  10. identify the energy waves and give examples of each wave on the electromagnetic spectrum.
  11. understand and give examples of our wonderful world of color.
  12. complete a closed circuit, and identify paths of electricity in forming closed circuits.
  13. discover the relationship between electricity and magnetism in lab activities.
  14. complete lab activities and lab worksheets in a responsible and timely manner.
  15. maintain an organized science notebook to be graded at anytime during the nine weeks.
  16. participate in the Mars City Alpha simulation in creation of a module for a station on Mars.
