There Is No Try,

Do or Do Not!

When George Lucas came up with his Star Wars movie way back in 1976, I never knew it would take hold of my life and became one of the compelling factors in my journey to where I am today.

During the course of my studies, I had the opportunity to live in a hostel, called Eusoff College (Evans Road) that became my home-away-from-home during those "crazy"years.
It was because of the Star Wars trilogy that I was enamoured with computer technology that I wanted to do Computer Science after my A-levels. When NUS offered me that course, I took the first bus down to the island-state and got myself a taste of undergraduate life and Singapore of the 80s.

Any Sweat? No Sweat!

Those dreaded initials would be the first thing any freshman would experienced and encountered when he or she first enters a university hostel. The Freshmen Welcoming Orientation Committee are a bunch of "dedicated and compassionate" seniors who play an important role in orientating the first-years into the life of hostel living.

For the first two to three weeks of the freshmen life in the hostel, they become their link to the goings-on and their very survival in this environment.

I had my share of all those when I first went in as a freshman and then for the next two years as a member for the FWOC. Those adrenaline-filled experiences that I went through were so unique that they could not be replicated anywhere else. If I were to live life all over again, would I go through all this again, you ask? Of course!

Now, how times have changed since! Eusoff College is no longer the hall it was. It stands mute and forlorn within the campus of the current National Institute of Education bearing silent witness to what it was in her glory days. If the walls could speak, the stories it will tell...

All I have now of Eusoff are the memories that speak to me of my "Growing Up".

Eusoff College was no exception. It had its own "humble freshmen", "senior ladies", "senior gentlemen", songfights and the Rag and Flag.
