Ans. A French man Pilatre-de-Roziar, made the first aerial journey. He made his first flight in a hot

air balloon on Oct. 15, 1783. He made his historic flight in Paris.

Q.2: What is the essential difference between an airship and an aeroplane?

Ans. The essential difference between an airship and an aeroplane is that airship is lighter than air

machine and aeroplane is heavier than air machine.

Q.3: Who invented the internal-combustion engine? Why was this type of engine so important to the

development of flight?

Ans. A German Scientist. Otto, invented it. It was a powerful engine. By the help of this kind of

engine it was possible to fly an aeroplane.

Q.4: Who was the first man to fly in an aeroplane? What was the date of his first flight and how

long did it last?

Ans. The first man to fly in an aeroplane was an American, Orville Wright. He flew by the help of

his aeroplane at "Kitty Hawk " on 17th December 1903. He stayed in the air for only twelve

seconds and then the machine fell down.

Q.5: What, in brief, are the respective functions of the reconnaissance aeroplane and the fighter?

Ans. The function of a Reconnaissance plane is to find out what is happening in the territory of the

enemy.

Ans. German bombers were made the first bombing attacks in London called Zeppelins. They came

from Germany during the First World War.

passengers.

Ans. While flying from Europe to North America the aeroplanes had to fly against opposite winds.

But on return to Europe they did not face any such difficulty.

Ans. The use of airship for passenger transport was abandoned because they were not safe. Many

airships were wrecked.

What kind of radio device contributes to their safety?

Ans. It is the jet engine, which has increased the speed of airlines. They can fly very easily at the

speed of 2,000 miles an hour. Radar is a useful radio device, which has made it possible to fly

even in bad weather.
