1. A SONG FROM "AS YOU LIKE IT."

REFERENCE:

These lines have been taken from a song "As you like it." Written by William Shakespeare.

CONTEXT:

The song is sung by Amiens, a companion of a Duke who is living a life of exile in the forest of Arden. The Duke and his companions were facing the difficulties of cold and rough weather, but they felt mentally at ease, because they had no enemies in the forest where they are living a simple and peaceful life.

STANZA NO. 1: "Under the green ------------------------------ winter and rough weather."

In these lines, Amiens, a companion of the exile Duke invites all those who want to live a simple life in the forest of Arden. It will be a peaceful life, free from worries. Amiens sings happy songs because he feels comfortable under the Greenwood trees in the forest. He is happy because he is safe from human enemies. He invites those who want real peace of mind to come and live with him in the forest. Whoever joins his company in the forest will have no fear of any enemy except the winter and rough weather. Here he will sing happy songs like the charming songs of the bird.

STANZA NO. 2: "Who doth ambition------------------------ winter and rough weather."

In this stanza Amiens is inviting people to lead a simple life in the forest of Arden. He says that only that man can enjoy the jungle life who has no high hopes. He will have to face the cold and rough weather. He will have to hunt for his food and be contented with he gets. If there is anyone who can bear all these difficulties, he should come to the jungle and enjoy peace of mind. In the forest he will leads a fearless life as he will not find any enemy there, but will have to face the cold and rough weather only.
