THE COUNTESS OF MORCERF.

The Countess of Morcerf was the heroin of the play. She was not very young but was an attractive lady. In her youth she was engaged to the Count of Monte Cristo, who was a sailor in those days. Another young man Count of Morcerf also became interested in her. So he married with her through fraud. Count of Morcerf was a fisherman in the past and in order to remove his rival he made a plane and false evidence in the court that Monte Cristo was a spy. Thus Monte Cristo was imprisoned. The Countess was not happy with her husband because he was not a good man. He did not treat her well.

The Countess of Morcerf was a loving mother. She loved Albert very much. She was worried when Albert challenge the Count of Monte Cristo to a duel. She was afraid that her son might be killed in duel because he was young and inexperienced. Therefore she went to the house of Monte Cristo and begged him not to kill her son.

The Countess of Morcerf was a noble and honest lady. She did not want that Albert or Monte Cristo be killed in the duel. On the return from Monte Cresto’s house, she told everything to Albert. When Albert came to know about his father’s character he begged pardon from Monte Cristo. Thus the duel did not take place and the life of an innocent person was saved. It shows that she was a wise lady.

Although her husband did not treat her well, yet she lived with him like a sincere wife. She bore all the difficulties patiently. She did not love Morcerf, but lived with him like a good wife. When Morcerf was publically disgraced she decided to leave Paris and go to some other city. She did not want that her husband should die. At the end of the play when Monte Cristo killed Morcerf, she fainted with shock.

MORAL.

Moral was the friend of Monte Cristo. When Albert challenged the Count of Monte Cristo to fight a duel with him, he accepted the challenge and called his friend Morel to be his second in the duel. This shows that Morel was his trusted friend. He was a very intelligent person. He immediate under stood the situation when he saw Monte Cristo firing at the target. He guessed that the Count was going to fight a duel with somebody. He was very helpful and he went to make arrangement for the duel that was to take place between the Count of Monte Cristo and Albert.

He was sure that Monte Cristo was a good shooter and he would kill Albert. He was sincere friend, therefor Monte Cristo asked him to sign as witness to his will. He was very kind. He asked Monte Cristo not to kill Albert because he had a mother. He told that an old lady could not bear the loss of her son. He was sure that Albert would be killed because Monte Cristo was a good shooter and he would fire first because Albert had challenged him. He also knew that Albert could save his life only when Monte Cristo want. Therefore he requested Monte Cristo not to kill him.
