4- MY BANK ACCOUNT.

(LONG QUESTION.)

This is an imaginary story. The writer confesses that he is afraid of a bank. Whenever he goes there, he gets frightened. The sight of money, the desks, the people sitting there everything him. The moment he enters there, he starts behaving foolishly.

He knew his weakness well but still he went to a bank one day with a view to open an account. His salary had been raised to fifty dollars a month and he thought that he should deposit this extra money in the bank. So he walked in to a bank one day and approached the Accountant and told him that he wished to see the Manager alone. The Accountant took him to the manager thinking that he had some important business to discuss with him. He was led into the room of the Manager where he asked him if he could see him alone. The Manager looks much worried. He thought that he was perhaps a detective who wanted to tell him a terrible secret about the bank. When he told the Manager about the purpose of his visit that he wanted to open an account with fifty-six dollars every month the Manager became angry. He led him out of his room angrily and handed him over to the accountant to deal with him.

Now the writer had lost all his senses. He was taken to a clerk. He pushed the ball of money at him with a quick movement as if he was performing some trick of jugglery. The clerk took the money from him and writes the sum on a bit of paper and signs his name in a book. The writer was much upset and the bank seemed to swim before his eyes. He then thought that he should draw six dollars for his present use. At his request he was given a chequebook and was asked to sign the cheque. He wrote something and pushed it to the clerk. He looked at it and jumped up in surprise. He asked him if he wanted to draw back all his money. The writer realized his mistake and replied in positive. The people in the bank stopped their work and looked at him with curious eyes.

The money was paid him back and as he left the bank he heard a roar of laughter behind him. They were laughing at his foolish behaviour. Since then he decided not to use a band. He kept his money on his pocket now and his saving in silver dollars in socks.

    1. AIR TRAVEL.

The Air Travel has become fast, comfortable and safe. Now the people are flying through the air like birds. Man has made efforts for flights since long. The first man to rise into the air was a Frenchman Pilatre-de-Rzier in a hot air balloon on 15th October 1783. The same year two another French min went up in the balloon. Then an English man achieved a great progress in 1848. Steam engine was used to give it power. In 1852 a French man fixed a steam engine in an air ship worked on the principle of balloon. Afterwards, an electric power was used in the French airship.

After a great struggle, the problem was solved in the form of internal combustion engine invented by a German scientist Otto in 1876. It worked best on vaporized petrol. Now man carrying airplanes were made possible. Two American brothers, Wilbur Wright and Orville Wright became successful on 17th December 1903. Their flight lasted for only twelve seconds. Yet it encouraged not only the two brothers but also other scientists. A French designer Bleriot made his own design and crossed the English Channel in 1909.

In the beginning the aeroplanes were not considered safe. However during the First World War, they were developed and they were used for the survey of the enemy’s territory. The Germans used Zeppelins for dropping bombs on London.

The experience gained during the war was successfully utilized in civil airlines. Airships were being used after the First World War. However, its use was given up after several crashes. Now the aeroplane had improved a lot in efficiency. By 1939, there were regular flights through out Europe, Asia, Africa and America. The radar and jet engine were made during the Second World War, which made the aeroplanes fast and safe. The speed reached to about four hundred and eighty kilometers per hour, which later on crossed the speed of sound.
