/Damn this life,

This air,

These friends,

They know me not.

They do not care.//

Dou sat, arms curled around himself, beneath a tree on a cliff that overlooked the wide stretch of sea. The moon, full and round, illuminated the streams of water seeping out from violet eyes. Why, he thought, anguished, Why can't they understand? They are my friends, can't they see, understand, how they hurt me when all I'm trying to do is cheer them up? He gave a sniff and burrowed his head deeper into the crook of his arms so that only those eyes, so bright with tears, could be seen. They see me as a joker, a nuisance. And they brush me off with a smile or yell or just a stare... His thoughts automatically skipped to a certain pair of cobalt glaring eyes and he just as suddenly jerked his thoughts back. No, no. I won't think of him, not of the way he makes me feel and the way that, when he ignores me, my heart rips in two... No! I won't think of it! He continued to cry silently as the waves crashed on the cliff below him.

/The stars shine bright,

Throughout the night,

Their light so trite,

So mocking//

As the stars shone down on him Dou raised his head to glare at them. They look happy, the way they shine and bounce around. They don't care if someone below is in pain, couldn't care less. They don't care if I'm sad or happy or in love... Dou shuddered as if swept by a non-existant wind. Why does he have to torture me like this? Why does God?! He gives me a glimpse of compassion, friendship, and then pushes me away coldly. Dou glanced up again. Cold. Just like the stars. He wasn't certain if he spoke of God or the owner to the azure eyes.

/This life, for me,

Just cannot be.

Hurts me just to look and see,

To love and be,

From this, my life, I flee.//

He sniffed again as he looked back towards the safehouse, seen only by the lights that shine in the windows and the faint sound of laughter. They don't even know that I'm not there. Dou buried his face back into his arms, the sight and sound of happiness too much. They really don't care...Not like I care for him. He made a choking sound. Why do I even try? Try to laugh for themand live for them. For him. The braided pilot glanced out onto the sea and spoke aloud, talking to himself, the sea. The stars. "Would they even realize that I was gone?" Dou stood and walked to the edge of the cliff, the updraft lightly playing with his ample braid. Glancing down he toyed with the thought, as he'd toyed the entire time he'd been out here. With a sigh and a last, almost longing, look he turned and walked back to the house.

/Behind a jesters mask I hid, Behind a flow of words,

But the mask, it cracked,

The flow was damned,

And now I can hide no more.//

He entered the house quietly. He no longer smiled, would no longer smile. Not for them and not for him. The constant chatter that had once bubbled forth from his lips was silent, damned up. Without even a glance at the other pilots he climbed the stairs and walked into his room. No, I can't hide from them. They've torn my mask away and now they will have to live with the real me. He smiled in a malicious sort of way and lay down on his side pulling the covers of his bed over him. He gave a rueful chuckle. I

wonder, will they regret tearing it down...?

/ Now I can hide no more.//
