My Thoughts on
Puerto Plata Village
My Star Rating:
4 STARS
Puerto Plata Village is rated only a 3 to 3 1/2 star resort but this is only because it is not right on the beach and the rooms were in need of redoing when we were there in April 2004. Everything else about this resort was 4 stars or higher.
The lay out of the resort is very nice and is infact as the name would suggest, set up like a little village. We were rather disappointed that the lobby was rather small and inclosed, but this probable was in keeping with the village set up. This is not a resort that one has to worry about getting lost at, everything is centrally located - the bars, pool, restaurants, lobby, towel hut etc. The Village is located in the Playa Dorado Resort area next to the Central Golf course. Within this gated area are about 15or so resorts, a golf course, and a shopping plaza. One is very safe walking around this area any time of day or night. The Village resort as mentioned is not right on the beach but is a short walk across the street and down a path to the beach, where there is a beach bar and smaller buffet restaurant which serves lunch. There is also a shuttle that runs from in front of the lobby to the beach about every 15 mins.
The POP Village has a nice section of beach which is quite long and wide, and there are quite a few beach loungers available.
Since there are lots of others resorts around there is a long stretch of beach to walk up and down in either direction.
Once at the beach it is possible to remain there if you want for most of the day since there is a bar, buffet restaurant and restrooms available at the beach.
The food at this resort was very good. The buffet restaurant was nicely laid out and not too big, but always had a good selectuon of different foods. We were able with our package to book the a la cartes every evening which is what we did since we liked them so much. The a la cartes at the POP Village was some of the best food we'd had in the DR.
One of the greatest things about this resort was the staff - they were great! From the lobby to the bars, to the restaurants to the maids - all worked really hard and tried their hardest to see that you had a good vacation.
They were mostly all very friendly and efficient and most spoke very good English.
