Resort Comparisons
Best Beach area of the resorts we have stayed at would be the beach area in front of the Princess resorts. It was the nicest for walking and swimming. Natura Park would be my second choice. We also didn't mind the beach area at the RIU since there were alot of trees along the beach for shade when needed. The beach at Sirenis was also very nice but not the soft powder white sand of the main Bavaro beach.
Best Buffet overall would be Natura Park, with Palladium, RIU and Sirenis close behind. Of the others, Bavaro Priness and Catalonia were not very good. The Palladium had numerous buffets to choose from. We stuck with Behigue for lunch and the Palace for supper.
Best Grounds by far would be Natura Park (Pic to left) with Catalonia a close second. Bavaro Princess and the Palladium Complex were nice but a lot of walking due to the size of the resorts.  We really liked the layout of the RIU Merengue and Sirenis Tropical though, since everything was close at hand, centred around one main area for both of these resorts. Although the lobby area of the Caribe Club Princess was a little walk away everything else rooms, buffet, a la cartes, were in one area close to the pool and beach.
Best Pool area would go to Bavaro Princess with Sirenis and Catalonia close seconds. All three are quite big and have alot of vegatation around the pool area and nice swim up bars. Sirenis has two swimup bars in fact , one on each end of the pool which stretches from one side of the resort to the other.Bavaro Princess also had a smaller pool up by the lobby which hardly anyone used. The pool at RIU Merengue was our least favorite. The Royal Suites pool was very nice and quiet.
Best Room for us would be the Bavaro Princess with the upper sleeping level and a nice size lower sitting area. We also liked the fact that this resort is made up of small villas with only 8 rooms per villa and each with a private entrance. (No one walking pass your door all hours). Sirenis Tropical also had nice junior suites with a seperate sittine room completly- very good for a family.
A La Cartes Restrauants were the best at Caribe Club Princess with the VIP package- There were 7 in total and we booked for 12 nights (with no problems) for a 2 week stay. Service and food was very good at most of these too. Sirenis was also good in this regard, with eight to choose from, even though we didn't eat at all eight and one you had to pay extra for. The Royal Suites was also great with 6 to choose from throughout the Palladium complex and booking at the front desk at the Suites Lobby was no problem at all. The food at the A La Cartes at POP Village was some of the best we've had in the DR, and with our tour package we ate every night at an A La Catre.
Best Service we received overall was at Royal Suites Palladium Palace. Service was also great at the others except for Catalonia.
Our Overall Favorites in order would be Royal Suites, Caribe Club Princess VIP and Bavaro Princess VIP. Our least favorite would be Catalonia. Gran Vantana I really can't comment on much since it was my first resort vacation so I was in awe most of the time there and it was only for 1 week where the others were for 2. For the last minute price we paid for the POP Village it was not bad either! We would return to any of the Punta Cana resorts except Catalonia where we had problems and Sirenis because of its location.
Other things of note that we liked:
-The
La Plaza Bar area at the RIU was a very nice place to sit, play cards and watch the evening shows.
-The
beach restrauant at Catalonia being open for breakfast so you could start your day at the beach instead of walking up to the main buffet.
-The
terrace entrance to our room at Bavaro Princess. No long hallway to walk down. The outdoors was just outside our door and the beach a few steps away. (See Pic above)
-The snack shop at Bavaro Princess and the
MacPrincess Chicken! My friend still raves about it!
-The
separate sports beach at the RIUs in Puerto Plata. It made the other beach nicer for swimming and relaxing.
-The
Hammock on the terrace (or balcony) at Catalonia.
-The
lay out of the Sirenis Resorts with one on each side of a central walkway leading from the lobby to the pool and beach. Finding one's way around this resort was not difficult at all!
- The pool side
Continental Breakfast served at the Royal Suites.
- Our great
ocean front view from our Caribe Club 3rd floor Jr Suite.
- the nice quiet atmosphere at the
Royal Suites lobby.
- The
Piano Bar at the Palladium Bavaro. A nice spot for relaxing- even had a selection of board games.
- the nice quiet
Adult only pool and beach area at the Royal Suites. They even had waiter service around the pool and at the beach.
Shaded Beach at Riu Merengue.
