Logies Formguide
24 APR 2002
Herald Sun
THE Herald Sun's television writer Robert Fidgeon goes trackside in
search of a winner.
GOLD LOGIE MOST POPULAR PERSONALITY
Rove McManus (Rove Live) 7/1
Ada Nicodemou (Home and Away) 4/1
Georgie Parker (All Saints) 1/2 on (fav)
Libby Tanner (All Saints) 5/1
John Wood (Blue Heelers) 20/1
McManus is a classy young colt who's come a long way in a short time,
but maybe the comic/host's year for gold will be 2003.
It would be great to see veteran galloper John Wood get up, but I
think his chance has gone.
The more you look at it, the more it's clear the fillies will fight
it out this year.
Libby Tanner has earned her shot, while Ada Nicodemou is big with the
young fans, but hot favourite is last year's winner, Georgie Parker.
It is after all a popular vote and All Saints rated a treat.
And the winner is: Georgie Parker.
SILVER LOGIES
SILVER: MOST POPULAR PROGRAM
All Saints (7) 2/1 fav
Blue Heelers (7) 3/1
Home and Away (7) 6/1
McLeods Daughters 10/1
The Secret Life of Us 3/1
Newcomer Secret Life will give this a shake, but in the end may be
run down by proven stayers All Saints and Blue Heelers.
And the winner is: All Saints
SILVER: MOST POPULAR ACTRESS
Rebecca Gibney (Halifax f.p.) 10/1
Claudia Karvan (Secret Life of Us) 3/1
Ada Nicodemou (Home and Away) 5/1
Georgie Parker (All Saints) 1/4 on. fav
Libby Tanner (All Saints) 3/1
Classy forensic filly Gibney deserves to win, but this is a hot
field. Karvan was impressive last year, as were Tanner and Nicodemou.
But if Parker is to win gold, she has to win silver or the awards are
a farce. (NB After Awards....Did anyone else find it bizarre that Georgie won most pop personality, but not Most Popular Actress..and vica versa for Libby Tanner...oh well, better this way, the Saintliness is spread around)
And the winner is: Georgie Parker
SILVER: MOST POPULAR ACTOR
Samuel Johnson (Secret Life of Us) 3/1
Ryan Kwanten (Home and Away) 10/1
Peter Phelps (Stingers) 10/1
Erik Thomson (All Saints) 2/1 fav
John Wood (Blue Heelers) 8/1
It's a popular vote, so Georgie Parker's stablemate Erik Thomson must
be the one to beat. Johnson may do better next year. Kwanten has the
teenie following, while age may be catching up with Phelps and Wood.
And the winner is: Erik Thomson.
MOST POPULAR NEW MALE TALENT
Conrad Coleby (All Saints) 5/1
Ditch Davey (Blue Heelers) 2/1 fav
Martin Dingle-Wall 7/1 (Home and Away)
Blair McDonough (Neighbours) 3/1
Danny Raco (Home and Away) 8/1
Impeccably bred from fine acting stock, young Coleby could surprise,
while McDonough, with the bonus of Big Brother fame has a strong
chance. But Mt Thomas new face Davey should snatch the statuette.
And the winner is: Ditch Davey
MOST POPULAR NEW FEMALE TALENT
Michala Banas (Always Greener) 5/1
Sibylla Budd (Secret Life of Us) 2/1 fav
Lisa Chappell (McLeods Daughters) 5/1
Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen 12/1 (Home and Away)
Jessica Gower (Secret Life of Us) 5/1
Classy filly Gower should get the nod, but stablemate Budd will
probably take it out. The country-trained pair Banas and Chappell
have been impressive, while Chaves-Jacobsen can't possibly win
because they could never fit her surname on the back of an envelope.
And the winner is: Sibylla Budd
MOST POPULAR LIFESTYLE PROGRAM
Backyard Blitz (9) 1/3on fav
Changing Rooms (9) 2/1
Ground Force (7) 4/1
Harrys Practice (7) 2/1
Surprise Chef (7) 4/1
Greek god of food Aristos could surprise, Harry Cooper deserves it,
Ground Force doesn't and as for Changing Rooms - who needs a Logie
when you have Suzi Wilkes? But Jamie Durie's team will win by a
street.
And the winner is: Backyard Blitz
MOST POPULAR LIGHT ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM
Australias Funniest Home Videos (9) 4/1
Rove Live (10) 2/1 eq fav
The Crocodile Hunter (10) 5/1
The Panel (10) 2/1 eq fav
This Is Your Life (9) 3/1
Kim Kilbey's Videos has been around a while, as has Mike Munro's This
Is Your Life. Outsider in a tight field ol' croc Steve Irwin, but
Rove and The Panel should fight it out.
And the winner is: Rove Live
BEST OF THE REST
The remaining four Most Popular categories should see The AFL Footy
Show take out Sport, Big Brother win Reality, A Current Affair bolt

Popular Game Show.
