Alex Perry went for the ‘oomph” factor when he designed Bron’s bridal
gown.
When top Australian designed Alex Perry first met with the wardrobe department from All Saints, it was all very hush-hush.
Alex knew he’d be designing a wedding dress for one of the network’s shows, but he had no idea which one, or who the lucky gal was!
“Wardrobe approched us about doing a wedding but it was all a big secret,” Alex says.
“I don’t watch a lot of TV, so I wasn’t sure what it would be for!”
After the bride’s identity was finally revealed, Alex met with Libby and decided the dress should reflect what she and her character Bron were all about. Then he set about designing the shimmering gown.
“She’s a really nice, down to earth girl and slightly tomboyish, so we didn’t want her to look like a princess bride- she needed to be a little bit sexy and not too traditional,” he explains.
Alex started making the sequined-encrusted tulle dress. The outside was entirely hand sewn, taking more than 60 hours to made.
“I thought it should be a bit of a Golden Globes dress- feminine but in a modern, sexy sort of way,” he says. “Its very simple. Its just a strapless sheath, but the fabric shimmers and it’s got classic 1950s lines.”
Alex was he prefect choice to design Bron’s magnificent, glittering gown. He has outfitted some of Australia’s biggest stars for their real life big days.
Former neighbours star Kimberly Davies, one time Water Rats favourite Dee Smart and Seven Network personality Sonia Kruger have all waltzed down the aisle in one of Alex’s beautiful creations, and now it’s Bron’s turn.
This will be Alex’s first TV wedding and he cannot wait to see how it all comes together.
“We’ve done a lot of celebrity dressing in the past” he says. “I thing it’s all a bit of fun...and doing it for a television show is great as well, because it’s not super-real!’
