Chapter Eight; Final Chapter:

Libby slowly opened her eyes and blinked a few times.  Everything was blurry for a few seconds but everything quickly cleared.  She saw a slumped figure in a chair next to her and tried to focus on who it was.  Her eyes nearly popped out of her head when she saw Justin sitting next to her, softly snoring and leaning over the side of the chair.  His hand was on the side of her bed near her hand, as if he had been holding it until recently.  She looked through the window to see JC, Joey, Chris, Lance, Matthew and Taryn sitting in chairs in the hall, all asleep.  Taryn was on JC's lap and Matthew was on Chris'.  Libby smiled as she noted the fact that her sister's arms were around JC's neck and JC's were around hers; Taryn must have been growing on him.  If she was only about eight years older they would make a perfect couple.

"Justin?" Libby asked tentatively, trying to wake him up.

Justin's eyes popped open and he looked over at the bed.  His eyes widened when he saw Libby awake.  "Libby, oh my gosh, you're awake."

"Yeah, half awake," Libby said while she sat up.  She promptly groaned with pain.  "Yeah, half awake and in pain."

"Libby, I am so sorry about this, it was completely my fault," Justin babbled, grabbing a hold of Libby's hand.

"Justin, Justin, JUSTIN!" Libby shouted, stopping him from babbling.  "Justin, it was NOT your fault.  You had no idea that something of this caliber would happen if I went on Great Bear."

Justin looked at his hands, which were holding Libby's.  "I'm sorry."

"Justin, you don't have to be sorry about this.  It was NOT your fault," Libby argued, putting her hand on Justin's chin to make him look her in the eye.

"I still feel horrible about it," he replied.  "It shouldn't have happened."  He thought for a moment.  "Neither should have Jenn and me."

Libby's brows forrowed in confusion.  "Whaddya mean by that?"

"I know that she's seventeen."

"Who told you?  And where is she?"

"I had the feeling that she was lying to me from the start.  But I just didn't wanna see it.  She seemed like she was just...  I don't know what, but I just didn't open my eyes wide enough.  She went home, Taryn and Matt are outside."

"Yeah, I saw them...  I think Taryn liked JC," Libby said with a smile, pointing toward the hallway.

Justin turned his head to the hallway and saw Libby's sister hanging onto JC for dear life.  He smiled at the thought of yet another adolescent crushing on his best friend.  He turned his attention back to Libby and his face turned serious.  "Libby, I was doing some thinking while you were, well, here, and I came to a conclusion.  If you want to, then, umm, uh, would you, maybe, wanna go out with me sometime?  Like, on a date?"

Libby smiled at Justin's inability to get an actual sentence out when he was obviously nervous.  "Of course I would."

"Really?"  Justin's face lit up like a Christmas tree.

"Yeah," she replied, "as soon as I get out of here."

"I hope it's soon."

Well, that's it guys!  Thank you sooo much for reading I Thought He Knew, it was really fun to write.  Sorry it's so short, but I meant for it to be really short.  It was originally supposed to be written over the course of one day, July 30, 2000, but it turned into three, from July 30 to August 1.  That's why it's so short.  Again, thanx for reading ITHK!
