Chapter Seven:
"Why did I agree to this?" Ali asked her friends, who had smeared makeup all over her face and pulled her hair into eighty different directions.

"Because," Cathy mused, "you're going out with a Backstreet Boy, and you need to look your best."

"Cath, my COUSIN is a Backstreet Boy.  I could care less about who Kevin is.  He's just a nice guy."

"Who happens to be incredibly gorgeous, and incredibly talented, and," Jamie said, doing her best impression of her best friend.

"Okay, okay, I get it.  I just can't believe I let you guys talk me into going to Pleasure Island with him," Ali said, glancing out the front window of their house, only to see Kevin's 4Runner pull into the driveway.

"You guys, they're here.  I'll be hiding under my bed, if you don't mind."

"But we do mind," Cathy said, pushing her toward the door.  "I have to go and hang out with them, so do you."

"But you're not gonna be there until later, that's not fair," Ali said, whining like Nick.

"Exactly.  Wes and I are gonna be there at ten-thirty.  Don't worry, if you're not having a good time, Fred'll rescue you."

"Great, and have HIM all over me like last time?  Forget it, I'm with Kevin," she said as the door was opened by Jamie.

When they got to Pleasure Island, Ali and Kevin immediately lost their friends.
Lovely, now I'm stuck with him, she thought.  Stuck with the object of my affection.  I guess there ARE worse things that could happen to me.

"Well," Kevin started, "where do you wanna go?"

"Someplace to dance, that's what I came here for," Ali replied brightly.

She wasn't wearing the new outfit she had bought earlier in the mall, instead she was wearing one of Hallie's sparkly blue tube tops and one of her black skirts.  Kevin decided to try and get on her good side by complimenting her.  "You look great in that.  I love blue."

"Oh, blue's my favorite color, espically royal blue," Ali said, well knowing that Kevin loved royal blue anything.

"Mine too.  Another thing we have in common."

"Yeah," Ali said with a smile as Kevin led her into a club she had rarely been in before, but liked all the same.  They played a decent mix of dance and slow songs, and she had heard some Backstreet Boys songs in there over the years.  She wasn't sure why Kevin was so quick to lead her into this club, but she soon learned why.

After dancing with Kevin for nearly two hours, she was ready for a break.
He's not such a bad dancer after all, she thought as Kevin led her to the bar.  He's actually pretty good.  If only Jamie could see him now, he's not as bad as she thought he was.

She was surprised to find none other than Jamie and Howie sitting at the bar, engaged in conversation.  "Hey guys, what's up?" Kevin asked as they approached the two.

"Not much," Howie said.

"I see you two have been dancing for quite some time now," Jamie replied, with a smile on her face.

Alli could practically read Jamie's mind, and said, "Yeah, that's why I'm so thirsty."  To the bartender she said, "A virgin strawberry daqueri, please."

"Ali, I'll be right back, okay?" Kevin said, looking at her intently, like he was thinking of something.

"Sure, whatever."

The second Kevin was out of sight, Jamie started ignoring Howie and drilled Ali.  "So, I see you're not dating yet.  I didn't know he could dance that well.  So, what have you two been talkign about, huh?"

"THAT is none of your business.  Will you stop it already?"

"Stop what?"

"Nothing."

At that, Kevin approached the bar and nodded at Howie.

What are those two up to now? Ali thought as Kevin smiled at her and said hi.
