Chapter Thirty-Nine:
"Hello?" Kristin answered her phone, trying to wake herself up.

"Kris, it's me," Kevin whispered, trying not to wake anyone in the bus up.

"Kev?" Kristin asked, sitting up in bed.  "Is that you?"

"Yeah, it's me," Kevin said, sitting back in his seat.

"What's wrong?" Kristin asked.

"Did you see MTV News yet?"

Kristin sighed, knowing what Kevin was talking about.  "Kev, I'm sorry, I didn't know that she was going on tour with Justin."

"Don't even say his name," Kevin interjected, not wanting to hear any of it.  "Just... could you do me a favor?"

"Anything Kev, you're still one of my best friends."

"Find out when the next flight to Kentucky from NYC is, I have to see you.  I'm taking a few days off this tour, I can't deal with it right now."

~The next day~

"Hello?" Brian answered his phone.

"Bri, where's Kevin?" Ali asked frantically.

"I don't know, I haven't seen him since last night," Brian answered, not knowing anything of the MTV News report.  "Do you want me to have him call you?"

"Right now I doubt he'd even talk to me," Ali muttered, glancing across the room at Justin, who was sitting on the bed watching Ali talk into the phone.  She turned her head to see Hallie and JC talking and she got an idea.  "Hey Bri, could you maybe, meet up with us tomorrow?  We're gonna be in NYC for a few days and I know Hallie wants to see you."

Brian hesitated.  "Well...  Maybe."

"No Bri, maybe is not good enough for me, it never was and it never will be.  And you know that.  It's a simple answer, yes or no."

"Jeez, if you're gonna be like that about it, then yes."

"Thank you Bri.  Look, if Kevin gets in, tell him I called and he can do whatever he wants with that.  I'll give you a ring tomorrow, just pick up the phone before anyone else gets to it.  Bye Bri," Ali said, watching Hallie walk over to her.

"Bye."

"Did you get through?" Hallie asked, sitting next to Ali.

"Nope, not yet," Ali replied.  "I have no idea where he is, or who he's with... none of the guys have seen him.  I don't know what to do, what to think..."

"Just concentrate on what your heart's telling you," Hallie said gently.

Ali glanced across the room at Justin, who was now paying attention to MTV.  This is what my heart's telling me, she thought.  I want to be with Justin, but I don't know if I can.

~*~*~

"No, that isn't the way to spell it, there's an I in there somewhere," Cathy said, looking over Lily's shoulder at the computer screen.

"No there isn't, I'm sure, it's an E," Lily replied, looking from the screen to Cathy.  "I know I'm right.  HEY I have an idea!  How about putting David Boreanaz in it?"

Cathy raised her eyebrows.  "I thought it was supposed to be a Backstreet Boys story," she said, getting confused.

"It is!" Lily protestes, typing furiously at this point.

"Why don't we just add Justin Timberlake in the damn thing at this point," Cathy muttered, turning around and running into AJ.

"Hey sweetie," AJ said, kissing Cathy on the cheek.

"Hi AJ," Cathy said quietly, trying to get around him to go into the game room.

"Where you going?" AJ asked, blocking her path.

"To the game room, I suggest you move or I'll hit you like I hit Nick."

"Okay, point taken," AJ said, letting Cathy move past him.

"If he gets any closer he will be attached permantly.  And not with strings," Cathy muttered to herself as she walked to the game room.
