Chapter Thirty-Six:
"I'm bored," Lily complained.  She, Cathy and Jamie were sitting backstage at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey, while the guys were performing.

"Well I dunno what to do," Jamie said, staring at nothing in particular on the wall.

Cathy sat on a couch, chewing a fingernail, thinking.  "Guys, I have a problem."

"I have an idea!" Lily exclaimed, recahing for her laptop and opening it.

"What?" Jamie said, her attention suddenly turning to Lily's enthusiasm.

"We could write one of those fan fiction stories about the guys," Lily said, still ignoring Cathy.

"AJ's beginning to become somewhat of a pest," Cathy complained, trying to be heard.

"That is SUCH a great idea!" Jamie said, sitting next to Lily and pointing to the screen.

"I know!" Lily replied, logging on to Geocities.

"He's just been smothering me lately, it's getting annoying."

"Yeah, we could make a whole new website about it...  We could name it Just To Be Close To You, after the song, and it could be about how we met them and stuff!"

Cathy looked up.  "Are you people even listening to me?"

Jamie and Lily looked away from the laptop's screen.  "What?" Lily asked.

Cathy rolled her eyes.  "Nothing," she muttered as she got up and walked out of the room in search of something to do.  "You people are so...
Nickish," she said as she exited the room.  (HA HA HA!!!!!)

"Nickish?" Jamie asked, looking at Lily for an answer.

Lily shrugged in return.  "Is that good or bad?"

"Ask Nick."

~*~*~

"Have you seen my blue shirt?"

"I dunno, where's the Rock Star one I wanted to wear?"

"I haven't seen it in days, where did you put my comb?"

"In that bathroom with the gel."

Ali and Hallie stood outside JC and Justin's door, listening to the guys' conversation.  "I swear, you people are worse than women," Ali complained, looking at her watch for the tenth time within a five minute period.

"Shaddup!" Justin yelled.  "We are not, we're just trying to make ourselves presentable."

Hallie rolled her eyes.  "Presentable?  You guys could look good wearing our clothes, could you please try and hurry the hell up?!?  We're already late as it is," she complained, adjusting her black skirt.  The girls were both wearing black skirts with different colored tank tops, Ali's was baby blue and Hallie's was dark blue.

The door suddenly opened, startling Ali and Hallie.  Justin appeared in the doorway, tucking his baby blue Tommy shirt into his khakis.  "Was that fast enough for ya, huh?"

"Yeah, JC, let's go!" Hallie said, ignoring Justin momentarily.

JC walked to the door, shoving his wallet in his back pocket and holding out a key for the room to Justin.  "Okay, we're ready, let's go," JC said.  Right before they began walking down the hallway, JC stopped everyone.  "Hold up a second."

Ali turned around in annoyance; she hated to be late for anything, though she always was.  "What now?"

"Justin, I don't think we've told the ladies how beautiful they look tonight," JC said with a grin.

Hallie's scowl turned into a smile.  "No, you haven't, please proceed," she said, twirling around for effect.

"Hallie, you look stunning," JC said, extending his arm for Hallie.

"Thank you," she replied with a giggle.

JC was about to elbow Justin to compliment Ali, but he turned around to face him instead.  The look on Justin's face was priceless; he was staring at Ali with a glimmer in his eye that JC had never seen before.  The look of wanting in Justin's eyes was something JC hadn't seen in a long time...  He just hoped Justin wouldn't get himself in too deep with an engaged woman and get his heart broken.

But the look in Ali's eyes every time she looked at Justin had changed; he wasn't the self-centered star that she thought he was.  He was completely different that she had expected.  The looks Justin had given her before; the look when he was singing I'll Be Good For You to her, the look he gave her when she fell off the bed into his arms...  And Hallie's words from earlier were burned into her brain...

"You know Als, I swear, if there weren't a ring on your finger, you and Justin would be perfect together."
