Chapter Two:
~~Six Years Later~~

The year was 1999.  "Millennium Fever" was sweeping the nation.  And Ali was still in love with Kevin Richardson.  She never did get to see him again, since they got famous.  Ali did get to see Alex, or as he was known as now, A.J. or Bone.  The guy was still as skinny as ever, and Ali took after her big cousin.  She was not anorexic in any way, shape or form, "Not from the way you eat McDonalds," her best friend Jamie always said.  But that was beside the point.  She had gotten to see A.J. a lot, he was her cousin, she saw him at every family function that she ever went to.  But that didn't mean she didn't change during six years.  Now that she was nineteen, her birthday was in September of 1999 and it was August, she was pretty independent.  She was always independent, but now she was even more so.  But now, here she was, in college at UCF (University of Central Florida), and living in a house in Orlando with her best friends from way back when, Jamie, Hallie and Cathy.

Naturally, she and Jamie were at the mall, talking about guys, as usual, when they spied a few guys in Hot Topic.  Naturally, Ali was looking at the tube tops, wondering which one she should buy, when she heard Jamie flirting with some guy.  She didn't even look up, she knew better than to bother Jamie while she was flirting.  And she wasn't that great at flirting herself anymore, she wasn't as forward as she was before, either.  She was now pretty shy, to tell the truth.  But she always smiled at people, that was one thing she never forgot how to do.

When she was still looking through the tube tops, she heard a familiar voice behind her saying, "I think you would look great in the yellow one."

"Alex, I look like a peach wearing yellow.  You know that," Ali said as she turned around and her cousin grinned at her.

"Hey little cuz, how've you been?"

"Great.  How was the tour?"

"Exausting.  Do you still have a mondo crush on Kevin?"

"No, not really.  I've accepted the face that he has Kristin."

"You are soooo lying."

"You know me too well, don't you?"

"You're my cuz.  Of course I know you."

"Just keep quiet, okay?"

"I don't think I have to.  Kev broke up with Kristin a month ago."

"Really?  I mean, oh, he did, I can't believe it."

A.J. smiled and said, "You know, he's here."

"Where?  What store?  In this mall?  Where?  TELL ME!"

"We're supposed to meet the guys in the food court in about fifteen minutes."

"Fifteen minutes?  I can't wait that long.  I'm going to find him.  Find Jamie and tell her I'm going to the Gap."

"Okay."  A.J. turned his head and said, "Ali?  I think Howie already found Jamie."

"Huh?"  Ali turned around to find Jamie and Howie sitting on a bench in the middle of the mall, Howie's arm around Jamie.  "How cute," she said to A.J.  "Hey, you two!"

Howie turned toward Ali's voice and smiled behind his sunglasses.  "Ali, that you?"

"In the flesh."

"Damn.  Wait until Nick sees you.  Those hormones of his are gonna go crazy."

Great, that's all I need.  A hormone-crazed nineteen year-old.  That's all I need when I'm looking for Kevin.

Ali was searching J.C. Pennys when she finally decided to give up when she found the cutest skirt and tube top set.  They were Tommy Hilfiger, and she thought they were adorable, the skirt was a white wrap skirt, and the tube top was white with a red and blue star in the middle.  And she actually had enough money for it, so she decided to try it on.  She found her size, and walked to the dressing room.  She had put it on when she realized there was no mirror in her room.  She had to go outside, in the middle of the mens and womens dressing rooms, to look in a miror.  When she looked int he mirror and turned around to look at her back to see if anything was out of place, she heard yet another familiar voice behind her.

"Ali, you look amazing in that."

Ali spun around to see Kevin standing behind her, wearing jeans and a white wife beater t-shirt.  He was even more gorgeous then she remembered, and she couldn't figure out what to say.  So the only thing that came out of her mouth was, "Kevin...  Hi."

"Hey.  Haven't seen you in a while."

"Six years."

"Six years is a long time," Kevin said, smiling, as he walked toward Ali.
