Chapter One:
Ali Sydney was still smarting from her breakup with her boyfriend, P.J., when she was called into work at Battery Studios in New York City.  She had lived in New York since she started college there, four years prior.  She had graduated a year ahead of her class at NYU, with a major in Music Recording and Production.  She was now working full time at Battery Studios, THE most sought after recording studio in The entire tri-state area, sometimes what seemed like the entire USA.  She had worked with many different artists, but what she really wanted was a change of pace.  She had her name on about twenty different albums, with writing credits, production credits, recording credits, and mixing credits.  The brunette twenty-one year old was one of the most sought after producers in 1997.  She had most of her recent success with the pop group Hanson, she had produced MMMBop and Where's the Love, and had a hand in writing Where's the Love.  Those kids are pretty talented, she thought to herself as she watched the Hanson brothers play around with the mixing board.  It took me years to learn how to work that stuff, and Taylor picked it up within ten minutes.  That kid is so going to go on to stardom.

She was itching to work with another pop group, since she listened to pop music herself, and she had enjoyed working with Hanson.  And the recent explosion that Quit Playin' Games (With My Heart) had done, taking over the airwaves as Hanson and the Backstreet Boys battled it out on Billboard, was too much.  1997 was truly the return of pop music.  She remembered when she was young, Taylor's age, to be exact, when she was listening to New Kids On The Block and determined to meet Jordan Knight and Joey McIntyre.  And she was so sure that she was going to marry one of them.  Man, I was a weird teenager, she thought to herself.  And she also recalled going to Walt Disney World to watch a taping of MMC, the New Mickey Mouse Club, when she was seventeen with her high school.  She was there for her senior trip, but she blew it off and decided to go to a taping of MMC, since she had a huge crush on J.C. Chasez.  I'm never going to forget his name.  And I'm never going to forget the way he sang Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx.  He had such an amazing voice.  And he was so sweet to me backstage that day.  And so was that cute little Justin Timber-something.  Timberlake, I think.  As I do recall, J.C. was about my age, I think.  I wonder what he's been up to these days.  I hope it has something to do with singing, that guy had an amazing voice, she thought to herself as she grabbed her sheet music for the group she was to be working with that day, and the next, for two months, until their album was finished.  'N Sync, that sounds like a cool name.  Cute, the way they have the N instead of In.  I wonder what they sound like.

When she got into the studio, she found a group of five guys sitting around the mixing board, apparently trying to figure out what which button and knob did.  She smiled to herself as she watched the back of a curly-haired blond screw up the song that was playing and a guy with braids in his long brown hair smacking him in the back of the head.  "Justin Randall Timberlake, will you stop messing with the buttons?  You don't know what they do."

"Well Chris, neither do you, so don't yell at me," Justin replied in a slightly squeaky voice.

Justin Randall Timberlake?  No way, it couldn't possibly be, Ali thought as she eyed up the remaining members of 'N Sync.  How could he be Justin?  That's not possible, Justin would be, like, sixteen or seventeen.  He's too tall to be Justin.  He couldn't be...  Could he?

All of a sudden, another brown haired guy, with short hair, blurted out, "J.C., where's this Ali Sydney we're supposed to be working with?"

"I'm right here," Ali said as she stepped completely into the room from where she was standing inside the door frame.  The group of guys turned around in surprise as she smiled at them.  She immediately noticed and remembered J.C.  He was just like she remembered him, only with shorter hair, and he was a bit taller.  But still the same J.C.
I wonder if he remembers me?  He probably doesn't.

"Didn't I meet you before, somewhere?" J.C. asked, surprising Ali.

Justin looked at her thoughtfully, before Ali could say a word, he said, "Yeah, you know, you look really familiar.  Have you ever been to Orlando?"

"Actually, I have been.  Are you J.C. Chasez?"

"Yeah, you look...  Wait a second, didn't I meet you..."

"...after MMC about five years ago?  Oh my God, you do remember me."

"Ali, right?"

"Yeah.  Wow, I thought I'd never see you again."

"So did I."

Justin butt in here with, "Yeah, the way he was carrying on about you after that taping, I was about ready to kill him.  And he still has that picture of you and him that I took, in his wallet, you know."

I was more then surprised.  I was speechless for a second.  But I regained my confidence, as I was always able to, and asked, "Oh really?  J.C., do you?"

"Well..."
