frequently asked questions.....

QUESTION:
what will it sound like?
ANSWER:
the final release is intended to be a diverse mix of everything out there- pretty much anything in the rhelm of electronic music. some of the commonly used genre names in no particular order: ambient, noise, techno, house, electronica, glitch, digital hard core, drum and bass, jungle, dance, breakcore, data, downbeat, trip hop, industrial, idm, etc, etc. If you think you are making music similar to any of these broad descriptions please consider submitting material for this project. the project will be professionally mastered for the best possible listening experience.

QUESTION:
what will the finished project look like?
ANSWER:
this is not going to be a lame cdr release. the album will be professionally reproduced. the cover will be printed in color (depending on final design, etc) and the discs will have screenprinted labels.

QUESTION:
How many copies are you going to press?
ANSWER:
the initial release will probably be 1,000... maybe 2,000... It kind of depends how many bands are participating in this project.

QUESTION:
who can submit material?
ANSWER:
pretty much anyone can submit something for consideration. the only restriction is that you must have a strong tie to philadelphia (live here, work here, do shows here all the time, grew up here, etc...). You do not need to be a hot-shot dj/producer, or famous musician to send in a song. in fact we are actually more interested in hearing new material from the some of the laptop freaks, closet tweekers, and audiophiles that never got their 15 minutes of fame (yet).

QUESTION:
how do i submit a track?
ANSWER:
all songs must be submitted on digital media, preferibly audio cd. data cd's with high quality mp3 files may also work, but a plain audio cd would produce the best results and be easiest for us to manage. please print out the submission form and fill it in completely. you will mail your cd to the address on the form. once you mail the cd to us it will not be returned. please do not send a master copy of your work! it is free to submit a song for consideration. the deadline for submitting a song is may 1, 2006.

QUESTION:
how will the songs be selected?
ANSWER:
this is one of the hardest parts of the project. last time we recieved so many great submissions, but it is necessary to select songs with the finished product in mind. it's a subjective process, but some of the factors are... sound quality, duration and style.

QUESTION:
are there any fees or costs?
ANSWER:
yes. if your track is picked there is a $100 fee... that's it. why you ask? well, this is to offset production costs... but basically it's kind of a bargin. you will get 100 copies of the finished cd with permission to resell and distribute freely. sell 10 copies @ $10 and you already made back your money. if the $100 is truly a hardship please contact us and negotiate terms that fit your budget. the money is not meant to be a deterrent.

QUESTION:
why should i pay to be included... aren't you doing this as a business to make money and stuff?
ANSWER:
nope. this is not something that we can do as a business. it is a labor of love, or a pationate hobby. we are way to busy and overextended to manage the distribution, etc. sure, we will put copies on consignment at a few of the record stores and stuff, but it's really hard to keep on top of that stuff. profits generated, if any, will be donated to a non-profit deemed to have a worthy cause. sorry to be so vague, but the specifics of this will be posted on this website soon. it will likely be related to animal compassion (who doesn't like critters?)

QUESTION:
why is your website all ghetto and, like, hosted on one of those free servers?
ANSWER:
quite frankly we are keeping costs low. my question to you... would you like to donate server space?

QUESTION:
are copies of the original submit cd still available?
ANSWER:
there are a limited number of copied available for sale. $12 usd. please inquire for more details.
