"This mortal life of ours is an opportunity, to gain Jannah. We can accept this opportunity, or decline it." - Sheikh Abdul-Aziz ibn Myatt [1]

Say: "Shall we tell you of those who lose most in respect of their deeds?- Those whose efforts have been wasted in this life, while they thought that they were acquiring good by their works? They are those who deny the Signs of their Lord and the fact of their having to meet Him (in the Hereafter): vain will be their works, nor shall We, on the Day of Judgment, give them any weight. That is their reward, Hell, because they rejected Faith, and took My Signs and My Messengers by way of jest. As to those who believe and work righteous deeds, they have, for their entertainment, the Gardens of Paradise, Wherein they shall dwell (for aye): no change will they wish for from them. - al-Kahf, 18:103-108 (Interpretation of Meaning, al-Qur'an)

The Messenger of God (may peace be upon him) said: "A person may be doing the deeds of the people of Paradise so far as society can see, while actually being one of the people of Hellfire. And a person may be doing the deeds of the people of Hellfire so far as society can see, while actually being one of the people of Paradise." - Taken from the book "The Wisdom of the Prophet", a selection from the Hadith translated by Thomas Cleary

"But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not." - al-Baqarah, 2:216 (Interpretation of Meaning, al-Qur'an)
