The Purpose of Life

The true purpose of this life is laid down for all to see, perfectly and clearly, in both the Qur'an and Sunnah. It is none other than to worship Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala alone, implement the true religion of Islam on earth, live life in accordance with his will with the goal of being blessed with entering the gates of Jannah.

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says in the Qur'an that:

"I have only created Jinns and men, that they may serve Me." 51:56

He also says that he has given us the gift of Islam whilst on this earth:

"This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion." - 5:3

"The Religion before Allah is Islam (submission to His Will)" - 3:19

He tells us that Islam is for all men

21:106-107

Given to us by Allah in the Sacred Book of which is perfect

"The Earth belongs to Allah and should be purified for Allah, and it cannot be purified for Him unless the banner "Not god except Allah" is unfurled across the earth." - Shaheed Sayyid Qutb, Ma'alim fi al-Tariiq (Milestones), p16, 1964.

and all deeds done outside of islam, no matter how good you think you are are not worthy
18:103-108,

The Messenger of God (may peace be upon him) said: "A person may be doing the deeds of the people of Paradise so far as society can see, while actually being one of the people of Hellfire. And a person may be doing the deeds of the people of Hellfire so far as society can see, while actually being one of the people of Paradise." - Taken from the book "The Wisdom of the Prophet", a selection from the Hadith translated by Thomas Cleary

He tells us also numerous times that this life is temporary and a test to see if you live in accordance with how he has given us the purpose of living:

"O my people! This life of the present is nothing but (temporary) convenience: It is the Hereafter that is the Home that will last." - al-Ghafir, 40:39 (Interpretation of Meaning, al-Qur'an)

"... for a Garden whose width is that (of the whole) of the heavens and of the earth, prepared for the righteous"... "for Allah loves those who do good;" - 3:133-134

But if we fail, Hellfire:

"As to those who are rebellious and wicked, their abode will be the Fire: every time they wish to get away therefrom, they will be forced thereinto, and it will be said to them: "Taste ye the Penalty of the Fire, the which ye were wont to reject as false." - 32:20

"... fear the Fire whose fuel is men and stones,- which is prepared for those who reject Faith." - 2:24

Volume 9, Book 92, Number 384:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "All my followers will enter Paradise except those who refuse." They said, "O Allah's Apostle! Who will refuse?" He said, "Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me is the one who refuses (to enter it)."

So take what the Messenger assigns to you, and deny yourselves that which he withholds from you. And fear Allah. for Allah is strict in Punishment. (59:7)

Deem not the summons of the Messenger among yourselves like the summons of one of you to another. Allah doth know those of you who slip away under shelter of some excuse; then let those beware who withstand the Messenger's order, lest some trial befall them, or a grievous penalty be inflicted on them.
