Uncle Al's Water Sports, our little story

It all started when our family was treated poorly by a large kayak reseller near our home during a purchase.

After that experience, we decided that we would start a place for kayakers. Where they could come and share their passion with ours, in a place that is more than a store, a place where friends can meet and have fun and make new friends!

That was over 15 years ago and we have never looked back. Please visit and enjoy our hospitality and passion for kayaking.

Come by soon!

Uncle Al

A: This website was created to communicate to visitors Uncle Al’s passion for kayaking and that Uncle Al is more than just a store they are part of the community. They are also a place where people can visit and talk with other kayakers. There is also 2 links to inventory pages and 1 link to a gear page.

B: The design choices I made were in direct contrast to manufacturer’s websites which are busy and try to sell you something on every page. I wanted to provide a calm experience for the visitor, a place where they could watch informative videos and review the inventory of Uncle Al. I thought it was important to provide a link to manufacturers so that visitors could see what was available from each and we could order for them.

With respect to fonts and background color, I picked fonts, Arial, that were not obtrusive and I wanted the background color to be Caribbean water blue. I tried to keep the website simple so that the visitor could focus on the videos and items for sale from inventory. I tried to follow the guidelines presented in the material from the course as well as my own internet research.

C: As I become more acquainted with HTML, CSS and JavaScript languages (this is my very first attempt at this), I would work to introduce those elements into the website experience but I would remain true to keeping the website calming and peaceful like most kayaking experiences, except for white-watering! If I had more time I would have tried out JavaScript as that is a powerful programming language and is the platform that drives the animation and interaction of websites. One thing I would like to have on the website is a section where a visitor can build their kayak virtually. From my research there are no manufacturers that have that capability on their websites.
