Ling: Utar dream to come true in Kampar today

KAMPAR: It was a proud and elated MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik when he saw party members and people from all walks of life working together as one family to make the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman ground-breaking ceremony today a success.

He said all preparations had been made and those involved had been working very hard to make it a huge success.

No words could describe his feelings on the success of the project, he said.

“Seeing something (materialising) which you know is hard to get, and which has become a reality today, is a wonderful feeling.

WELL DONE: Dr Ling applauding the performance of some pupils during rehearsals for the ground-breaking ceremony at the Utar site in Kampar Saturday.
“I have deep satisfaction, happiness and joy (for getting the unexpected).

“There is a mixture of feelings. It is more than happy. I do not know the word,” he told reporters yesterday after attending the rehearsal for the ground-breaking ceremony at the Utar site here.

Dr Ling said only 10% of the ceremony today would concentrate on the ground-breaking while 90% of it was to pay tribute to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad who had contributed much to the country.

He said Dr Mahathir created many milestones for Malaysia which included the North-South Expressway, the Proton car, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, the KL International Airport and the Petronas Twin Towers.

“All these were done by him for the Malays, Chinese and Indians and not for any one particular race,” he said.

About 30,000 people are expected to attend the ground-breaking ceremony to be performed by Dr Mahathir this afternoon.

The programme will include a poem recital paying tribute to Dr Mahathir.

The poem in Bahasa Malaysia will be recited by a Chinese primary school pupil who won last year's national level poem recital competition held among vernacular schools.

Dr Ling will also be presented with the land title for the 520ha Utar campus by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Tajol Rosli Ghazali.

The MCA Caring and Sharing Choir, organised by Datin Seri Ena Ling, will render four songs including Thank You For Being A Friend as a tribute to Dr Mahathir.

The highlight will be Dr Mahathir laying the foundation stone for Utar, surrounded by pupils waving the Jalur Gemilang.
