Thanks to all my friends who helped talk me through the gifts in this chapter. Couldn’t have done it without you! It was three months since Takeru and Hikari died, and their friends and family were getting their lives back in order, doing their best to move on. *I…miss them, don’t you?* Hikari asked. *Yeah. I’m regretting my decision every moment I have to look at my friends and family and not be able to touch them.* *I regret it too, Takeru. And I’m so sorry for what I did to you. I know you don’t believe me, but I really didn’t know what I was doing, and now that I see clearly again, I feel terrible. I guess the darkness inside of me finally took over, and I can understand how Ken feels. And…I guess I didn’t truly care for you. Like you said, if I really had loved you, I wouldn’t have done something so cruel.* *It’s all right, Hikari.* *It’s not all right!* she burst out. *You had a long, happy life in front of you, with someone who loved you. And I ruined it, just because everyone expected me to be in love with you. And I try to do what people want of me…* *Hikari…* he whispered. *Gomen ne.* “Well, glad to see you two are getting along,” Wizardmon said, popping up suddenly and scaring the heck out of Takeru and Hikari. “What do you want?” Takeru asked, taking over the body. “I’m here to congratulate you two on finally making up.” Takeru raised an eyebrow. “Sure.” “And you get to go back to Heaven now, if you want. Your loved ones are getting their lives back in order, and you’ve learned to get along. You’ve accomplished what you needed to, and the others no longer need as much care. And I’m to tell you that you may leave one small item- between the two of you, mind you- for each of the Digidestined. After all, they’re not normal people, and one of my superiors feels they deserve to know that you’re doing OK after all the service they’ve put in.” “T-thank you,” Takeru replied after a moment. “You’re welcome,” Wizardmon replied. “But mind you, you have an energy limit when creating the items, and you only have 24 hours before you have to be back in Heaven. Good luck.” And he popped out of existence. After a few minutes’ debate, Takeru and Hikari decided who would leave an object for each digidestined. *They should be symbolic, don’t you think?* Takeru asked of Hikari. She muttered an absent agreement, thinking about her own choice of gifts. *How about feathers dyed with our crests for our brothers?* Hikari asked. *I like it. And something for our jogress partners…like…colored necklaces.* *Excellent!* Hikari agreed. An hour later, Hikari began to deliver her tokens. To Taichi went a feather dyed with the crest of light in pink, left on his desk. To her “big sister” Sora, a yellow rose that would never die, because yellow flowers meant friendship, and this one would be never-ending. To her other sister, Mimi, she gave a silver bracelet with the kanji for Onee-san.[1] Jyou got a small cross, representing both his crest and his wish to be a doctor, borrowing the American Red Cross symbol. And to Miyako she gave a choker necklace of pink and red wire, with the crest of love as a charm hanging from the center, and smaller charms of sincerity and light on either side. Then it was Takeru’s turn. For Yamato, he left a feather died with the crest of hope in green. For Ken, he left a small snow globe with Imperialdramon inside of it, and labeled “Believe” on the bottom. Koushiro got a necklace in the shape of a keystone. Engraved on the back was, “I know you sometimes feel left out, but we couldn’t have done it without you.” Iori got a necklace with green and gold twined wire and charms of the crests of knowledge, hope, and reliability hanging from it. And to Daisuke, he sent a simple loop of gold wire, which Daisuke wore on his wrist. [1] Which means big sister. A/N: Yup, that’s how it ends. I have reasons for everything I do, though, and the gifts had their reasons as well, before you ask.
